That was not a letter it was a book. But the Kreuzberg was/had the BEST beer in middle Germany. Playboy voted it the best beer in the world once. Drink 1 lt and please do not try and drive. Red beer the BEST in all the land.

I think Playboy rated it #2 in 1983. I remember sitting in the Monestary during the winter of 83-84 thinking: "How the hell did Playboy ever find this place?". I though it was definately the best beer in Germany.

Rember that little gasthaus in the town just east of Wildflicken, where the road "T"ed? That place got hit with more tracks trying to make that turn than anyplace within the actual training area.

Best place to eat on-post was the BW Kanteen. For 3 bucks you could get a snitzel dinner and a beer.

At Wildflecken's German canteen, in 1963 a GI could buy cognac in a small flask that fit perfectly into the right front pocket of an M-51 field jacket.

Well the brau at the monestary was very, very good. We'd ride our motorcyles up their during the spring, grab a stein and platter of kasse. Roam around and check the sights and very carefully ride back to the Rhone. During the winter we'd hit the ski areas around Wildflicken & Wasserkuppe. At night it was great to get a tube from a duece & a half and hit the snow. Of course no steering just at the mercy of the slide.

Most of us lived in a village below Wildflicken and it'd get loud. I guess Howitzer Battery was the only unit to use Wildflicken, but the Rhone was a great training area for the A10s, AH1s and the ground observers. Made sense since it was the gap.

As far as Kruezburg beer's rating recall it being rated one of the best according to local legend in '73. No matter when a special event was to occurr it was always great to haul a wooden keg to it. Legend had it that a few were able to include it in their household goods, of course the legend indicated the movers & customs would look the other way when granted a gesture of appreciation.

Probably of all the training areas Wildflicken was the best to be at.
