I looked in Publication 521... and I didn't feel that it was all too clear for my specific question. No one around here seems to know, so...
I separated/moved to Wright-Patt/Dayton, OH, where I'm working as an ART. my HOR was WA state, and when I submitted my tavel voucher, the lady said my approx return after taxes is about $2300.00. I recieved my W-2 for this travel payment already. One thing that I could not claim on the travel voucher (and I completely understand why) was the shipping of my 2nd car, which was about $1300.00 I'm just wondering if I can claim the $1300.00 as a moving expense when e-filing? I can't find a clear cut yes or no. I'm wishing I can... as this would net me a little more in the tax return. Thanks! |

Here is a copy of the code. Although there are weight limitations, the vehicle would be part of your personal affects and, based on my understanding, would qualify if those limitations are not exceeded:
http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/uscode05/usc_sec_05_00005724----000-.html If you can understand why the government wouldn't reimburse you, was it because of the limitations above described??? If so, my response would be you can't claim it. Otherwise, I would go for it, assuming you do not exceed limitations. |

Thanks for the reply!
The government wouldn't pay me for it because I was only authorized 1 car... and I used my truck to pull a u-haul. It seems like that link says the same as Publication 512. I'm still confused! |

It appears that you are looking for permission!!-
Reading the rules, if the weight qualifications are met, I find nothing which excludes more than one vehicle. |
