Does anyone know where I can find the form that dh would need to fill out in order to file for an "extension of deadline" due to being in a combat zone? I read up on all the info on the military.com sites (very helpful, by the way) but was unable to find where I could locate the paperwork needed to file the extension.
thanks for your help |

IRS Q & A
ANd this says you do not need to file anything to get the extension: Some taxpayers can wait until after April 15 to file a return, pay any taxes due and make IRA contributions for 2007. As a general rule, those eligible get the extra time without having to ask for it. Eligible taxpayers include: Members of the military serving in Iraq, Afghanistan or other combat zone localities. Normally, the postponement is until 180 days after the service member leaves the combat zone. Spouses. Spouses of individuals who served in a combat zone or contingency operation are entitled to the same deadline extensions with two exceptions. The extension does not apply to a spouse for any tax year beginning more than 2 years after the date the area ceases to be a combat zone or the operation ceases to be a contingency operation. The extension does not apply to a spouse for any period the qualifying individual is hospitalized in the United States for injuries incurred in a combat zone or contingency operation.
