like i stated in another post, i was in basic for just over 5 months before getting discharged, that was from june 29,2006 to dec 5, 2006. i asked before if i would get a w-2 and i am supposed to apperantly, but wasent i supposed to receive that w-2 in january of this year being as i was in the army the last 6 months of 2006?
i never recieved anything in the mail in january of this year, then again i was out of the country from february to november of this year, so if i did i would't have known it.

or am i gonna get the w-2 this january 2009 for the year 2006?

You should have received your W-2 for TY 2006 in January of this (2007) year. I doubt very much that you'll receive your W-2 for 2006 in 2009. Are you certain you didn't receive it in the mail?

Go back to the military and request a copy of your W-2 for 2006. Chances are, if that was your only income for the year, you are owed a refund. In any case, if you are required to file, you must file a return for the year in which the income was earned.

Perhaps it's a little early but you may also request a transcript from IRS. This would reveal all of the income reported, from whichever source, for the 2006 tax year.

Here, you'll find Form 4506-T, along with instructions, which you may use to request a transcript:

NO!!=Smile Just file your 2006 return and, if you have a refund coming, you will receive it. Generally, you would lose any refund if you filed a return later than 3 years after the due date of that return.

The 2006 forms are available at http://www.irs.gov

So can i go to one of those tax refund places that does it for you as soon as i recieve the w-2 in 10 days? or do i have to wait until that time of the year when your supposed to submit it, i thinkits before april or something? sorry im just not too literate on these tax things, my sister who deals with stuff like that usually was the one that did it for me every year.

Although many professional services are open all year, many others operate only on a seasonal basis. Most of them will open in the middle of January. If you are in a hurry, look in the yellow pages under Tax Preparation to find someone near you.

If you have a low income, and only the W-2, about which we have been speaking, it should be a no brainer for you to prepare, and file, a Form 1040EZ.

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040ez--2006.pdf

You may have to file with your state as well but that's another issue. At this point, there is no great pressure to file your 2006 return. If you are going to have your 2007 returns filed professionally, you may want to have both returns prepared at that time.

There are also many firms which offer free tax preparation. Just do a search under "free tax preparation" or try to use this search:

Good Luck!!=Smile
