MY w2 last year showed me grossing 16441.67. fed witheld only 127.28. i had combat pay of 28837.00 that was not taxable.
I have never changed who or what i clm in the last 8 years...there is only me. Is there a reason why FEd would only have taken so little? I think it is an error, how would I get this fixed...or looked into. it looks like someone forgot to write a one right before that 127. Basically i eneded up owing b/c uncle sam didnt take enough money from what was taxable...how often does this type of error happena nd how can i find out fi it was an error. Army W2 Any help would be great |

There could be an error on your W-2. If you think the information is incorrect, contact your local finance office.

Your fine,
Im not sure of yor filing status so looking at the worst example of being single. Gross 16,440 Standard deduction :-5350 Exemption: -3400 Taxable income:7690 Tax (10%): 769 thats assuming your single. and youd owe about 600. Which is grwat since the IRS gave you a free 600 dollar loan. If your married then you would have no taxable income and would get it all back. Im not even going to mention if you have children since you would get more than you paid in. So bottom line is your just fine. |

The problem is that they didnt even take out one percent from me. My total txable amount was somewhere around 12 k. With my exemption, and standard deduction they shouild have taxed me at least a grand plus. they only took out one hundred dollars fo rthe whole year. I claim 0 so they take out as much as possible and have never alter my fed withholding since I was in. I didnt owe anything, and in previous years I have had a min of 1500 with held. I also went to a slightly higher income (promotion) late in the year which should have prompted them to take more. Still sound good? I have had everyhting the same way for 7 years, and ALWAYS got money back. and now, they "forget" to take enough...just dont sound right. |

Thanks for the link....but my problem is that if I inquire...I dont want them "re- looking" over my financail history ONLY becuase I got some tax free money that I would have had to pay back but the Army never took it back when i got out LATE last year. I thought I had to give it back, but they let me go with it, so if they messed up, I dont want them knowing... Is me inquiring goign to prompt the IRS to notice I might owe a bonus if the Army forgot to get it back when I left? If so, I might just take my chances keeping quite, but at the same time...I shouldnt get the short end of the stick from the IRS if they made a mistake on what they wrote on my W2, vs what they actually withheld. What do you think? |

Have you checked to see how many dependents you are claiming. Even though you say 0, someone could have easily typed in 2 or 5. The reason I say this is because it happened to us several years ago. We PCS'd, he checked in, and in their error changed 2 dependents on taxes to 5. So less was deducted.
Go back and print out last year's LES's and check them to see if there was any mistakes. Then go to Finance and get it changed now. |
