Basic Training |
My son was in the Air Force Basic Traing earlier this year, and unfortunately did not complete the process due to a medical condition that arrose during basic. He did, however, earn his pay from February through May, 2007. So far, no W-2 has shown up in the mail for him. The law states that all W-2s must be issued no later than 31 Jan. So, my questions is, what do we do now? I do not have a military background, so I do not know if thius is typical. I also do not know where to go. From my Internet searching, this discussion seems to be my only hope of getting an answer. Thanks in advance for any help.

The W-2 has to be issued by Jan 31st, but it can take a few days to get to the person. First, does the AF have his current address or you address as his address of record. If this is not the case, or he has not received his W-2 by the 15th of the month, then call DFAS. There Web Site is here.
http://www.dfas.mil/ Here is some information: You can view and print your W2 on myPay. You will need a PIN to do so. If you do not have a PIN, we can etablish it here. In order to do that, we need a brief letter requesting it, along with a photocopy of your government issued ID or drivers license, your daytime phone, signature and SSN. Fax this information to 216-522-5800. The temporary PIN will be the last 5 digits of your SSN and will be in effect within 2 business days of receipt. Military service members, military retirees and annuitants, and federal civilian employees paid by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) can expect to receive their 2007 tax statements beginning in December 2007. DFAS customers with myPay (https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx) access will be able to retrieve their tax statements electronically up to two weeks sooner than those relying on regular mail delivery. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) forms W-2s, 1099Rs and 1099-INTs, along with retiree and annuitant annual account statements for DFAS customers are projected to be distributed by the dates in the following table: Active Duty Air Force, Army, Navy W-2 Jan. 22 Jan. 23 to 29 |
