Funny, I remember reading in the Uniform Board msg that came out recently that there is no more "Tropical Blue Long" uniform. It is now called the Tropical Blue... yet in the brand new manual, they call it Tropical Blue LONG on page 1-4 (and I'm sure throughout the manual also...).

Applause

that is a reflection of the time it takes to actually release a manual once you have all the pages written.

i breezed through it and found a few mistakes also. but what else is new? i'm sure one of the personnel on the project just said, "We'll take care of it in the next update." i heard that before.

I'm sure that there are few other "priceless" literary works out there with a few errors. Like Mr. Flynn pointed out; the new manual was probably in concurrent clearance when the uniform board 43 came out with the changes. Send your itemized error list in accordance with directives and they'll consolidate them into an ALCOAST to put everyone on the same page...so to speak.

Bottom-line: what is the intent and can you understand it? I'm pretty sure that most folks know what the Tropical whatever uniform is...if not, ask your Chief. This isn't hard. Cool

No - YOU know HANDBAGS, not purses!

(silly me, I looked for PURSE, not handbag!)

Maybe that is why nobody follows it! Big Grin

Nice try, making excuses for mistakes in a newly updated manual, but... AVT changed to AET about 6 years ago. I guess that mistake slipped through the stringent quality assurance process headquarters is known for. More than likely they were distracted with blogging or twittering or whatever the latest fad is.

Feel free to request an assignment to HQ and fix all the problems. The people that work on these things are normal Coasties just like everyone else.

I can guaruntee that I can come to your unit and find mistakes in your work too. I used to do it for a living at MLC and I have never been to any unit that was perfect. In my case case I helped them fix their problems, I did not go on the internet and slam them for not being flawless.

What happened to the boonie hat? ALCOAST 011/07 said it would be discussed in this revision, but it looks like it was left out completely.

"NOT TO BE WORN OFF BASE, WHEN INTERACTING WITH THE PUBLIC, OR BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OR BOARDING TEAM MEMBERS" limited it to DCs cutting the grass or BM's working at the dock. We were still waiting for some clarification on that one. But now we have nothing.

Now that’s a very good question. Thanks for pointing that out.

in the past i requested, through the chain (though i'm sure they thought i was joking), to let me go over the unfinished product before it was put out. anytime i wrote a unit instruction, memo, etc. i always had several different people proof read it again and again.

but i've also seen personnel route documents and just keep sending it up waiting for the higher-ups to forward it back with mistakes they caught. either way there will always be a flaw in the system. maybe have a dedicated uniform department. just my two cents.

bfayer,
I could request an assignment to headquarters to seek out and fix all problems known or unknown or I could sew buttons on pine cones - neither has any bearing on the issue.

The problem I pointed out (AVT instead of AET) was not a little typo, I didn't point out a misspelled word (well technically it is) or some other mundane mistake. A rating that was changed 6 years ago is omitted while the ME rating created less than a year ago some how made it. That is a little bigger than a missed comma, especially for a uniform manual. Maybe that is indicative of just how out of touch with the field headquarters really is.

I am sorry if my pointing this out has ruffled some feathers - instead of fixing problems for people - maybe holding someone accountable for the problems they created is in order.

Just my humble opinion of course
