If you have future questions about medal and ribbon attachments, you will find your answer in Table 1 of the Medals and Awards Manual, beginning on PDF page 37. Anything with footnote "a" is large 5/16" stars, and anything with footnote "b" is small 3/16" stars.

The explanation of the footnotes immediately follows the table.

If you ever need to know about marksmanship awards or attachments, those are located in the USCG Ordnance Manual.

Player05 - How the "F" did you advance to E-5 if you can't figure what star to put on a CG Good Conduct ribbon? What other ribbons are you having trouble with? When did Fredsplace replace the Uniform Manual or asking your Chief?

You're probably up for E-6 soon or hoping to get an XPO job in the future, but yet you can't figure out what star to put on your ribbon.

Consider yourslef lucky you're not working for me.

It probably is a good thing i dont work for you Chief! I would think you'd have a little more respect than that to come on here and talk like that. especially not even knowing me. but this is a discussion board and it was a simple question. and i'm not afraid to ask questions on here. just like i would help junior BM's that needed some guidance. but thanks for your imput and if you want to talk more im not to hard to find.
Thanks

Well gopfamily with disgruntle talk and your pure lack of leadership I can see why you haven't advanced beyond your present grade in the 16 or so years you have been in. If you want to make a degrading remark on here at least make sure you have the spelling correct. Two words "SPELL CHECK"! It just doesn't do the smart-@$$ comment justice when your grammar is off. I mean come on, someone in your present pay grade should know how to spell.

Take it easy the man just asked a question which is what this board is about. In my opinion jumping at someone who just asks a question even if you think it is dumb is horrible leadership so you might have one point right I bet he thinks he is lucky he dosn't work for you I know I do.

Not for nothing, but you would have to get at least a 5 in using resources, right? Big Grin

Chief

Consider yourself lucky youre not working for me. Have YOU ever held an XPO position? I truly hope this post doesnt reflect your leadership. I find it interesting that Chad can post his name, rank, and even ask a question when he didnt have the answer.

You on the other hand, post as an E7 under an anonymous profile, and give a sacastic reply directing a member to ask his chief, which just so happens is the same paygrade that you are poorly representing.

I know they dont teach this at the CPO academy, come on man.

Someone give this guy a hug or something!

Enough people have ripped on you so I will spare my opinion. However, can we please get an apology for player05?

Well now. Simple research on the board can find a lot of time when GOP and I disagreed. I am likely one of his least favorite people. That said - this time I can agree with him. Apologize? What the heck for? Sure, 92 had a very polite and maybe very effective answer. (We can always count on him for that, an excellent Coastie!)

Truth be told, anyone with at least 6 years of service should have looked something up on that page before.

Right message from the Chief, wrong delivery. Praise in public, chastise in private. And I am also not afraid to ask if I am at a roadblock. Can't we all just get along?

Please don't think any worse of me either but I did look in the manual. I have two LOC's with the "O" device. How do you wear that? Is it worn with both the "O" and star or what? Please don't think I am bragging I am not, I am just a humble cook. Thanks for your help.

Wow, how things have changed! A Chief being told he lacks leadership for scolding a subordinate.

I had a BMCM tell me that he was going to hold my body over the fires of hell until only my bones were left for something I didn't even do. The same BMCM would always point to the manuals if anyone had a question about policy. He knew them inside and out, because he read them and knew them cover to cover. He expected the crew to do the same.

I always admired the Chiefs in my day because they were direct and never worried about giving the politically correct response. Unlike many O's who couldn't make a decision or answer a question without getting approval from HQ.

You betcha! Of course, he was the most extreme gruffy example of a BMCM.

Everyone was actually able to breath a sigh of relief when you showed up.

Looking back now I can see where Joe was coming from and he taught me alot. I also see that he just really enjoyed messing with people, because he could. In fact just before he retired, he told me he would miss that the most.
