Just checking if other people have had fading and shrinkage issues with the untucked ODU? Mine have fade and have shrunk quite a bit since receiving them in NOV. Followed the label to the t and have stopped putting them in the dryer and hang drying them. I’m a BM2 on a 270 and I am kind of getting the impression that this was another failed attempt at a working uniform. I was not one of the people suspecting the new ODU to be the end all be all for a hardy working coastie uniform. We shall see after my next patrol if it can stand up to working in the sun all day and the rigors of underway life.
How much shrinking is quite a bit? I just received mine today and as per the current measurement chart I ordered and received the correct ones but with the sleeves unrolled the cuffs cover half of my hand and I walk on the bottom 1-2 inches of the pants. Has anyone else had issues with large sizes that shrink to fit? I wouldn't think that a nylon cotton mix would shrink all that much.
So far, so good except I find the sleaves to be very tight around my bicepts when rolled up. I do work-out on a regular basis but I think most of us do now.

i think that should have always been the case with those in the cg. good on you for continuing to do so.
not to rag on the cg, but hopefully they will get the uniform thing down. from those who i know that wear the new odu's, they like that the blouse is finally untucked. but they don't like how the uniform fits.
I have had mine for a little over a month now. When i first put them on I was very impressed with how great they fit. Now everytime i put them on the are shorter tighter. Very bad shrinking issue with mine and the other 2 members at my unit. Oh yeah and the waist in the 1 pair of pants is huge and the other could not even button but they were the same size.Nothing but problems for me. just dont wash them and you are fine. Is anyone else having this issue.
it's not like these are high end garments. but if you want them to last i feel you should take the same measures when washing them. even though the tags mention warm water, i highly suggest cold. everyone knows that minimizes fading. i would also go with low heat for 3/4 cycle and hang dry the rest. which minimizes shrinking. i did that with my first set of odu's for years and i mine never shrunk. if you want things to last and look good, you need to do it with proper care.
these things run larger than the measurements. I hade to return them and get a size smaller. And yes, i did go by the sizing chart! Lowest bidder baby, go USCG!
Mine shrunk some as well, and I am beginning to notice that the pants are continually becoming more and more lighter than my shirt. Oh and I did wash them on cold.
For what it is worth, you get paid to replace them every other year.
If you want to see that in writing, go to the new Uniform Manual. Find the sea bag chart. You will see a 'shelf life' number next to each item. That is the number they use to determine your uniform allowance. If a uniform has a two year shelf life, you get 1/24th of the replacement cost each month.

I don't really think that makes the excuse to continually create uniforms of poor quality and implement them into the service. Had the guard just used the other services as a template, they would have been better off from the start. However, they continue to deny constant requests from the fleet and steer their own course towards failure. Plus, I wish one uniform would last me 2 years. That just doesnt happen. It's looking to be the same with the untucked also.
PO Raines; I did not say it was a reason to change anything.
Now, if your ODUs are wearing out faster than that, lets look at some reasons why.....
Wait, before I do that, when was the last time you replaced your bravo jacket? Your Combo Cover? Your trop shirt? (You want me to go on?)
Take reasonable care of your uniforms. You will probably find that if you wear out one type of uniform quicker than the established shelf life, you probably are able to keep others longer. I would also bet that if you add up the expenses for purchasing of new uniform items over a several year period, it would not touch the uniform allowance you get. (Remember, don't count non-required purchases)
Every other service has gone to a digital pattern defenseindustrydaily.com/fractal-creep-new-d...af-usn-jordan-02045, yet we keep hearing how hard it is for manufacturers to match dark blue and how hard it is for us to keep a pant/shirt pair in the same shade. Why did we hang onto the solid blue?
