Need advice on long underwear. Son needs some for boot camp and being from Phoenix, we're out of the loop. Any preferences in fabrics, brands, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in Phoenix too. Now that the heat has broken I'm thinking about buying some for those chilly 67 degree evenings!

You or your son could ask the recruiter.

All due respect to our hard working recruiters, but you should ask someone who works and sweats in cape may on a regular basis (i.e. ME).
Try a synthetic fabric long underwear of dark, dark blue or black. Underarmour makes some great cold weather gear and many companies make inexpensive knock offs that work just as well. I say synthetic because it wicks away sweat better and keeps a body warm and dry. which is important for hygeiene and health reasons. If you can't afford the high tech stuff don't cry and whine just make due with what you have. Millions of old salts before you did the same. Us "young, hip, in the know coasties do what we can to have the newest technology to keep us cozy and comfy. |

Generic dark blue "silks". Don't need to spend uber amounts of $. Silk is durable and really warm. --M |

Are you even allowed to bring your own long underwear? I guess I'm dating myself but I thought you could only have white boxers or briefs and nothing else. I wouldn't recommend long underwear. I don't think you get time to change out of them when you go from out side activity to inside classes. Wish him the best of luck. I've been around for 19 years now and still love my job.

I guess huh? I thought freezing ballz on the parade grounds at Cape May was excellent preparation for my next 18 months aboard WLB-406 Acacia, breaking ice in lake superior! -Jeff |
