Here's one I've been trying to run down for a while:
Are USCG graduates of the USAF Senior NCO Academy permitted to wear the Air force PME ribbon? There was a message out authorizing this a bunch of years ago, but it doesn't seem to have followed into the medals and awards manual.
CPO Academy staff I discussed the matter with responded "Hellz Yeah!", but the staff in charge of the maual won't return my e-mail...or I may be sending them to the wrong people (more probable scenario). Anyway replies with insight appreciated. Replies with "what does the manual say" can pack sand. Cheers shipmates! SB
YES, check the MCPOCG uniform matters link and visit and ALCOAST from somewhere in the 1999 timeframe which authorized (stroke of the pen) the wearing of the US Army PME ribbon w/4 for graduates of USASMA and for graduates of the USAF PME system...yes that includes the SNCOA, NCO and ALS.
That's 077/99 I believe. Email the office of 1221, can't remember the official title you can get it in the HQ organization. New manual is in the "concurent clearance" or near to it. The AF and Army ribbons are in the new pub; still amazed it hasn't been updated since 99 (even after the update of 02). One Team, One Fight

I just earned mine a few montsh back and HQ said I was authorized to wear it. The school showing in your training record is authorization to wear the PME ribbon.
The USAF award of this ribbon is very liberal. The AF Reserves and Air Guard do not have to attend the actual PME course, it can be done by correspondence. Ive found that anyone from any branch can take the correspondence courses, you dont even need command approval, and be awarded the ribbon. In the Army we get the retirement points, promotion points, and the ribbon. Whether the USCG would allow its wear after completion and award by correspondence is another matter all together.

This award, authorized by the Secretary of the Air Force, 28 August 1962, is awarded to graduates of the following certified NCO PME schools (NCO Preparatory Course, Airman Leadership School, NCO Leadership School, NCO Academy, SRNCO Academy). Graduation from each successive level of PME entitles the member to an oak leaf cluster. Do not award the ribbon to members who only complete the correspondence courses or similar training conducted by other military services except for in-residence completion of the U.S. Army Sergeant Major Academy, Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, or Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Academy.
