But the message says you HAVE TO order from the UDC.

Priceless! Left hand, meet right hand. Right hand, meet left hand.

MC, Perhaps the UDC has until September to catch up?

Interesting point. That only covers them for not having them, not for sending people to somebody else.....

What happens to those enlisted members who bought the original AWP on their own nickel?

Anyone come across any guidance for units that already purchased these and issued to its folks...and still has some in storage waiting to be issued? We've sent emails and left message with the message POC, but no joy as of yet.

Methinks this will cover those who have already made the purchase.

the ones that were purchased are property of the unit and should be marked with a US Coast Guard Tape on the left pocket. These will be a seabag item.

If they purchased the AWP, do they ALSO have to purchase the FWP II? That is more what I was getting at.

Indeed. To paraphrase a quote I once heard: "Logic is rarely the engine that propels the Coast Guard."

I may have missed this, but what are the differences between the AWP I and the AWP II?

I'm assuming that parka that I had to pay for was the AWP I, and I really believe that that parka was not even worth half of the ~$200 that I had to pay for it.

FWP II, I know is longer and I think has a shorter storm flap in front. Something like that.

The FW-II is built sturdier than the AW-I. The parkas and liners are longer and have a flap going across the neck for better closure. The trousers also have a flap over the zipper going down the sides of the legs.

The biggest change, however, is that the FW-II comes in a lot more sizes than the AW-I.

The posting on the CG site, however, says it's not available from the UDC and directs service men and women to our website.

Which (again) conflicts with the order above, from VADM Papp, requiring us to only get them through the UDC!

The udc site states that both are authorized for wear. The only way to get a right answer would be from CWO Greene.

Both may be authorized for wear, but the II is the one you MUST HAVE as part of your sea bag. You don't have to wear it, but you must have it.

I talked to CWO2 Greene this morning because like many others I had already spent dollars on the AWP I. He stated further guidance will be out in an Alcoast. The reason behind the FWP II is within the next year when we are authorized to un-tuck our blouses (ODU0 top) it will be longer than the AWP I and you will need the FWP II to cover the blouse since it has been engineered to be longer. Which as Master Chief stated it MUST have it so it is part of your seabag requirement.

Yes another reason to dislike untucking the blouse.... Gotta love the CG's way with uniforms! Just more money the CG got me to waste!
