You can talk about us, but you can't talk without us. |
What is your opinion of the best boot out there? I am tired of Bates. Broken zippers etc. A buddy of mine just bought some Danner Boots. Danner Boots Another guy I know swears by Red Wings. Is it worth it to spend the money on expensive boots you can resole?

The Danner striker is a very good boot. Hopefully you are on your feet more then your butt, so take care of them and spend the extra bucks. It's well worth the extra expense. Dave

Bought a pair of the Converse 10" steel toes and they are great! They are light and actually feel like a tennis shoe. Just bought another two pairs from Gall's, a 10" and a 6" both now have composite toes and both are zipper boots.

HELLO Jenny..i got your number off the wall... Is.nt that the one's they called superboots? seriously i heared of some boot called the superboots..not sure if it was on here or before i left the CG...but i did notice a pair of boots in the X-Change that had laces in the front..and a zipper on the side and a steel toe. I used to like the short top regular lace up type they issued in bootcamp in the late 70s ..not sure if they still make them..i did have a pair i bought at the sea-bee base off pass road in mississippi. i am retired now ...i like steeltoes but i just buy tractorsupply special usally..on sale..pull up no laces... |

I normaly go through Galls for the zippered boots, just make sure you get the little velcro tab that goes over the zipper so they dont unzip on you every 10 mins.
Electronics people keep in mind CG reg's require that our boots have the composit toes vs. the steel toe. |

Have your unit pay for them...go thru the exchange and get the boot from there...then when they issue them to you and you have to throw yours away, you can "take them to the trash". If you need info let me know...did it at my last unit.

And that my friend would be defrauding the government, you as a cook should know that since it is a requirement to post a big freaking sign saying "Any attempt to defraud the government is punishable under the UCMJ". The only way you can get your unit to pay for them are if they are used for organizational clothing like foul weather gear or if you destroy your current pair in the line of duty. (SAR case where you stand in sea water, boarding where you crawl through oil, petroleum, etc.) BM1 |

I second that comment. Came from a buoy tender and the only personnel that were allowed to have boots purchased were deckies and some of the engineers that worked on the buoy deck. That my friend is the only way you can use unit funds for the purchase of boots. Hope your unit didn't go through MLC Compliance Inspection and that wasn't caught....... |

DACOOK: Not on my watch. What you propose would be a violation of the UCMJ not to mention your blatant slap to the Core Values.
Safety Boots, normally are procured with your uniform allowance. There are, and I have ordered them as a contracting officer, times when appropriated money can be used to purchase boots for personnel. I would have loved to see you dumpster diving Cook, especially for something that if bought and issued to you, you would keep and wear until they were no longer usable...you don't turn boots in (unless the nature of your discharge says to surrender all uniforms); with your advice you may head that direction someday anyway. Not only that, the CG Exchange is way down the list as an authorized dealer/source of supply. AAF and Navy Exchanges are considered Large Businesses... |

Actually I believe you can go through the exchange now.

My Red Wings lasted 14 YR's of daily wear....and I just replaced them with another pair of Red Wings. I have faith that I'll retire in these boots.

Yes, you may purchase any brand of boot that meets the requirements of the Uniform Manual or the Rescue and Survival Systems Manual(using your own uniform allowance money), BUT, if you are purchasing safety boots with unit funds, here is a portion of the R&S Manual stating to use the UDC as a SOS:
C.8.e of R&S Manual:
Keep in minds that these cannot be purchased with unit funds for everyone. There are specifics to who they can be issued to. Dig through the manuals for a complete list.... |

Belleville boots are awesome. They are on the GSA schedule, if you can find a way for the unit to buy them as operational clothing. If you pay for the yourself, there's a military price.
They have a pair with "flight deck" soles just like the old boot camp boondockers had. Great soles for wet boat decks. By far, the Bellevilles are my favorite and I've tried many. I saw two soldiers over the weeken wearing them too, except theirs were a funny tan color and not shiny at all. http://www.bellevilleshoe.com/product.php |

A very good pair of boots is probably the best investment you can make in a uniform item. You take care of your feet and they will take care of you.
I had some crappy military issue desert tan ones over seas, after a month I had an ingrown toe nail and the early stages of jungle rot between my toes. My girlfriend got me a pair of danners and shipped them over, it was like I was eating crackers all my life and now I had prime rib! YES! The extra money is well worth it! |

I bought a pair of the 511 ATAC Shield boots.
http://lapolicegear.com/58atshbofrsh.html I couldn't be happier. They are comfortable, and the soles are barely worn after almost a year so far. |

I apologize for my post, I had a lapse in judgement. I did not think about what I was posting as I was typing.
Sorry. Dacook. |

I just joined the CG Aux and am looking to complete my ODU with either boots or boat shoes. I think boots would be a better investment with the Winter coming on and I've looked at the Red Wings with the side zip on sale for $99. I was also told by an army buddy over in Iraq that the 511s are good as others have said on here. My problem is I need to try them on as I wear size 7 female, with a narrow foot, and the smallest I've seen is a men's 6 so something that fits well will be tricky. I'm already thinking thick sock with an insole hehe. I live near Seattle so is this something that's sold on base or do you have other suggestions on what to get and where to go?
Thanks, -Kim |

If you go with RedWings, there are usually stores locally. You could always try a local exhange or tailor shop, they carry boots. The link I provided for the "Converse" boots above goes to LA Police Gear. My experience with them has been great as far as customer service. Their boot policy makes it easy to "try" boots for free. "5.11, Converse & Danner boots get FREE ground shipping AND FREE UPS Ground return shipping if they do not fit... We want you to have an easy, hassle-free boot purchase from LA Police Gear. A UPS return label will come with your shipment." Hope that helps. oh, as far as non-marking boots, I have found the Converse to be very, very GelCoat friendly (ie no "skid" marks). --Mark PS Don't forget to get boots with a "safety toe" |
