Hi...since my local CG base doesn't sell boots my friend will take me to the army and air force bases tomorrow to get them. I understand they need to be black, safety toed and non marking but what about the sole? I went to a Army/Navy surplus place yesterday and found army jump boots with a severe cleated sole. I figure if I'm going to be on smaller boats because I'm in the CG Aux I'll need something flatter. Thoughts? I will also have boat shoes as well in case when I'm off base.
yes thanks...i've inquired there and read all the threads i could find. mostly the boots just need to be non-marking but i wondered what kind of sole people wear for wet tracking and regs. what i read says high top, lace up, black, safety toe, with a sole no higher than 1 inch.
Hard soles tend to slip on wet decks, deep lug soles tend to slip on wet decks, soft soles tend to ... and lots of soles mark decks. That's why when people were asking in the other thread "what boots?", the responses all were brand specific as our experiences with those boots on wet decks (and galley marks) have been positive.
I can tell you first hand that if your feet are miserable, then you will be miserable. Life is too short for that.
thanks. i've always just worn my vans or pumas on deck...that is if i'm not barefoot so this whole thing is a learning experience for me. off to go take my uniform to get the tapes sewed on now and then after that i will look around for boots but i need to buy something by end of day tomorrow. -Kim
