Aside from the buttons, are they essentially the same?

I would like to use the bridge coat in the winter, and wanted to see if I "converted" a Navy one, it would still be ok.

Any thoughts out there?

Thx,

Yamil

Sir;
Where did you see that a "Bridge Coat" was an authorized coat?

Thx MastersMate,

I gave the CGA a call and they dont have any available. I keep looking for them through ebay, but they are hard to come by.

The bridge coat is much warmer than the trench, and looks better.

If anyone out there has one for sale (42R) let me know.

Thx,

Yh

Rx_guy,

Did you contact the Academy Bookstore or the Academy Exchange? I saw several hanging in the back of the bookstore yesterday; I believe the price was $225, though I don’t know what sizes. I've never seen them at the exchange however.

The number to the bookstore is (860) 444-8308. I would try calling them instead of the exchange if that's who you talked to.

I would definitely give them a call; the coat was my favorite to wear when I was on exchange out in Colorado during the winter. Much warmer than the parka and kept the trou mainly snow-free.

CoastieVal,

I called, but unfortunately, they only have 41L or 50R in size (I am a 42R).

Thx for the info though.

Up until the uniform shift in 1976, the CPO overcoat was the bridge coat without the loops for the officers shoulder marks.

Sadly, since I haven't seen either in real life, I didn't know they weren't the same color. Thx for the update Chief.

My original request still stands, if anyone out there has a bridge coat in good shape (42R) I'm interested.

Thx

What up Buddy, Congrats on you early promo. I traded in my enlisted work jacket for a brand new bridge coat at a military surplus store it still had the tag on it.

Who manufactures the Coast Guard Bridge Coat as well as the reefer coat? For sizing, is there another garment you can compare size with? ie: ODU blouse (40 reg etc) The fitting and alteration manual doesnt mention this particular jacket. Would the same size apply to both coats?

I am trying to drum up both of them and I figure if i have the name of the company that manufactures them and the correct size I will be in the ballpark and not have to see it in person.

The CGA still has some bridge coats but only a few sizes and they said they don't plan on ordering any more.

Likewise, if anyone is selling (or knows someone who is selling) a size 44 (regular or long) bridge coat, please message me as I am interested.

They aren't being manufactured on order for the Coast Guard anymore (since at least 2005). There's still alot of officers out there who may be willing to sell them when they leave active duty or just want to lighten up their trunk.

There's been some definite interest from the field over the last couple years for new ascessions, aux people, and now chiefs to get their hands on a bridge coat. I don't wear mine that often, but its one of my favorite uniform oddities and, besides the service whites or the even more rare reefer coat, is the only truely naval uniform item still authorized for wear in the CG.

People frequently ask about it (or if its for sale Razz) when I do have a need for it. The trench coat is rather poorly insulated and might as well be USAF issue and the AWP I&II, while pretty practical and comfortable, hardly identifies what agency or service you work for. Were it not for ballcaps, the AWP almost makes you look like a paramilitary rent-a-cop in ODU if its your own coat and doesn't quite look right over SDBs. But being stationed up here in the Northeast, though the bridge coat may be heavy (and smells like a dog if it gets wet), it sure stops the biting cold (practically down to the ankles) on windy winter days when you need to be in SDBs and looks great!

In the universe of possibility, it could be conceivable that bridge coats could be produced in a pre-ordered run somehow if there's a manufacturer out there willing and able to do it under some kind of service blessing for specifications. Unfortunately, thats the universe of possibility, not the universe of probability.

KC
