Just received my medal, medallion and certificate today from the State of Missouri. That was the state where I grew up and enlisted back in 1972. The governor there has extended the filing deadlines for all vets of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam era to apply for appropriate recognition of having served. No need to have been in combat or even in country - just served honorably during any of those periods.
The medallion, medal, and certificate all depict the Three-man, Vietnam Memorial bronze statue in D.C., with the Great Seal of the State of Missouri on the reverse. The suspension ribbon is red, white, and blue in the same pattern as the red, yellow, and green Vietnam service medal ribbon. It's a decent tribute. If you are or ever were a Missouri resident you can apply at www.mogurad.com for the application. Takes only about a month or so, once they review your DD214.
Master Chief is it only for people who have retired or completed their enlistment? I am active duty and from the great state of Missouri and I didn't know if the same thing applied to active or reserve members.
It's date related, BM4life... Each award depends upon when you served. I served both during and after the Viet Nam inclusion date given and has nothing to do with you present status. It mostly had to do if you served during the time being recognized and that you were a Missouri resident at the time of induction or at retirement.
I would check it out and see if you fall into the inclusion dates listed. Like I wrote, it's a nice medal... just don't expect to get to wear it on your ACTDU full dress uniform.
