The Navy doesn't have a ribbon for LOCs, if they do, have a picture?

No, not to my knowledge. I got one in '91. No ribbon, just a Letter of Commendation from Commander, Mideast Forces (a two-star).

No Direct Access entry, either.

I received a LOC from a one-star just before I got out of the Navy, and I tried to get the Coast Guard to recognize. No go. It wasn't awarded to a Coast Guard member, or by a Coast Guard command to another service's member.

A Navy Letter of Commendation, signed by a flag officer is worth 1 point for a Sailor when advancing to e-4, e-5, & e-6.

Well then it wouldn't have done me any good because I was a First when I got my Navy LOC.

Oh well... Roll Eyes

In the reference I found, it was vague as to whether the point would be for other services or just the Navy. Just mentioned E-4 to E-6. Confused

Navy LOC’s are worth one point for Navy personnel. For all other services it is something to stick on your “love me” wall.

I wanted to post my experience having served in the CG on Navy bases for many years. I have a Navy LOC signed by a 1-star admiral. For members in the Navy competing for E-4 through E-6 it is good for one point towards their SWE. It doesn't not count for points for USCG personnel. However, there is a Direct Access entry for this award and it is important to have it entered. Most YN's do not enter these often so you may have to push to get it done. Hope this helps, it took me some time to get it entered into DA, but mine is in there.
