Was talking to a new PSU commander and he said that at the last conference it was announced that the PSU's are dropping the Woodland and Desert BDUs and going to a new urban digital camo uniform that the Marines didn't approve. Like a grey or light blue.

Anyone have a pic? I've searched and searched with no luck.

You said light blue, right?

Sorry, couldn't resist. Smile

It's another version of MARPAT. Not light grey or blue. It's just a different version of camo that the USMC didn't want to use.

Don't worry, we won't look like Navy members.

MARPAT? Complete with the EGA embedded in the pattern?

How about making it "GUARDPAT" with the CG shield?

Google the marpat types and it is one that didn't make it. No official pics yet.
No EGA. It will be "our own" Roll Eyes so that every branch will look different.

Blue camo is no good as it's used by the PLO "police" and other targets of opportunity. Big Grin

From Wikipedia, "the Urban pattern was not approved for use."

If memory serves, the uniform instruction that deals with all coasties who wear a camo uniform states that we follow the Navy's manner of wear for CUUs, be it DCU or Woodland. So if this changes, I suspect that instruction will be updated as well.

Heres the question. Will this new digital uniform be PSU only, or will all "expeditionary" Coasties be wearing the same new Coast Guard Camo?

I would suspect that there would be only one authorized camo uniform for Coast Guard members, be they PSU, LEDET, or the crew of an out of hemisphere bound 378.

LT,

That would make perfect sense and save some cash for the CG (but I think that might be against policy?? Haha). Not to mention the overall standardization of one other uniform would be nice. Especially a modern uniform.

He didn’t mention a timeframe either other than it was brought up at the last PSU conference and was given the impression it’s a done deal.

Hopefully you'll see something soon.

My husband got full Camis when he was on the 378 for the war. The brown ones. Only on the ship over there and then home to port.

Here is the Wiki definotion of camouflage:

quote:
Camouflage is a method of cryptic or concealing coloration that allows an otherwise visible organism or object to remain indiscernible from the surrounding environment through deception.

Now, exactly how does wearing a desert camouflage uniform at sea, on a very large white ship, fit that description? Confused

All I can tell you is they are issue and every one gets them that is on the war deploy. Why is always a question that sometimes ou can't answer. But they are neat and well made. And the boots are cool too. And yes he really didn't need them but again they were issued.

Actually I knew that. this was discussed at length in the thread "Can someone explain this" in this same forum.

What's interesting is the most, if not all, of the other 378's that were deployed there didn't get the uniforms, but it appears the Boutwell did for both deployments.

For some reason we didn't need the camouflge uniforms on either ship I was on when in Nam, even though one required we haul stuff through the jungle to replenish batteries/supplies at a light house.

Who knows? The CG sometimes operates in mysterious and wonderful ways..... Wink

Do you think that maybe it was because they were closer to the shore than most? Weird how they were the only ones who got the issues of them. ?
