In my previous assignment as an instructor at the Naval Diving Salvage Training Center we required our students to wear all cotton tightie whities under the UDT shorts so that we wouldn't have any one eyed pygmy albino eel sightings in our co-ed training environment. Wear your UDT's with pride because once you get past being uncomfortable wearing them it's awesome how uncomfortable you can make everyone else around you.
On a serious note the UDT shorts were painstakingly researched and developed to be safe in a hyperbaric chamber environment. They are non sparking and non conductive. Unfortunately their design hasnt keept with fashion over time. Cheers!

Are you suggesting I wear them for things other than Sea Cadet training?

CWC, I believe they are designed to be worn with the "jock strap" Unlike other uderwear types the jocks strap is designed to keep your so called "junk" supported while not allowing the material to bunch up causing rashes in longer swims... such as the 50 mile swim mentioned above. Good luck young sailor
