Last I heard they were still making tweaks to the overall design. And that they need to work down the stock pile of the old ODU's before they make a push at the new ones.

sometime late 08 with the new untucked version being optional until tucked in version is depleted. Accession points will continue to get the tucked in version until told otherwise or depleted.

Well I'll take anything a Master Chief says to be golden. Still would be nice for them to release a msg to NTFD the rest of us. I guess the New ODU will be like Rescue 21 huh. When are we getting them, next week. Two years later, when are we getting them, next week. Wink

here's what I'd probably do; go to my Chief and ask the same question. I see your profile says you're in FL, I'm in FL and I know that you aren't in my sector but I know that my counterparts down here all have access to the same info. If yer on a LANTAREA cutter in FL I know that the CMC has that info and its been passed down.

just sitting back enjoying the show Popcorn

AY = Annual Year, meaning AFTER 01 Jan. We are in FY08, yes. In all likelihood it will start being available mid 2008.

My only complaint is that when the crew sees the Comdt wearing the new untucked version, and then asks me when we're getting ours, I can't give them a real good answer. If I were Comdt for the day, I wouldn't be wearing a certain type of uniform until I know all my troops have them.

So as Commandant, you would approve a uniform that you have not worn or tested yourself, a uniform that you had not lived with and traveled with for an extended period of time?

You would approve a uniform that the majority of Coasties had not been exposed to, or been given the opportunity to provide you direct feed back on?

I find that interesting.

Negative, Master Chief. I did not say it shouldn't be tested. If he want's to wear it around for a bit and see how it works, great. All I'm saying is that once you've got a feel for the thing and are ready to sign off on it, put it away, get it out to the troops, wait until the majority have them, and then announce a date that they go into effect, so we can all be, dare I say, UNIFORM.

That was my biggest complaint when the ODU's came out in the first place. You had guys running around in the old polyester, and guys in ODU's out doing boardings. I think it looked bush-league.

Just my opinion.

I am willing to bet we will not see the new ODUs in CY08, no matter what a silver badge pretends to know.

Cool, the longer I have to wait to wear those goofy looking things the better. If I'm lucky I can wear my current ODU's until the Untucked version is replaced with actual tried and true BDU's that have been tested and worn for years by other services.

For everyone that does not want to listen to what they are being told by their CMC, or feels the need to confirm or rebuke something they heard from the rumor mill.

Go to: http://www.fedbizopps.gov and look up the solicitation read the specs and see what is going on for yourself.

There is no grand conspiracy to provide disinformation to the troops.
