No, it is a symbol of a high level of professional achievment in a special mission area. The one pictured indicates a professional achievment as a cutterman, a professional mariner. It indictates not only a very high level of knowledge of being a part of a crew U/W, it also indicates a minimum of 5 years at sea and at least two different cutters.
My question is where this picture comes from...especially since the nametape is implying a derogatory slang that is being associated with the CG uniform...funny ha-ha...not.
Bosun; Just wanted to shoot a quick thanks for all the times you have drawn pictures to make things more clear. (Of course, I know crayons and drawing are a BM fortee!)
Can I ask for a quick mod on the above? Take the second one off. Two qual devices have never been allowed on the ODU - just like they were never allowed on work or undress. A current (and only a current) ID Badge may also be worn. I know it say CUU - but I hear my shipmates favorite phrase in the back of my head "why don't Coasties read".
For viking - yes, a coxswain pin could go there, if the person has minimum 5 years as a coxswain. They can not wear it on that uniform if they have less than 5 years. That time frame applies to most, but not all badges.
If you call insinuating that those in CG uniforms are dirtbags, then your joke was on target. I don't think that was your intent, but it is wise to know the various definitions of words prior to using them in trainings. If by questioning an anonymous poster on their intent causes you to go off in a sarcastic tizzy fit...then maybe you are taking things too seriously.
I've seen this one before...this nonrate comes walking into the watchroom at the Sta years ago from another local unit looking to get some parts to borrow. Me and the XPO were sitting there BSing and noticed the lack of crows and his nametape on the working blue said "STAIN". The XPO and I looked at each other and asked almost in stereo..."SN or FN??".
The poor kid just dropped his head down low and mumbled "SN.....".
He must have heard that one too many times...but as for me and my XPO, we laughed our a$$es off as he walked away looking for someone else who would help him without laughing at him!
When I went to see my brother graduate from USAF Recruiter School at Lackland there was a SN Swallows attending as a member of the Naval Detachment there.
