I BELIEVE THAT IT WAS LATE 75, EARLY 76. ADM R.W. Durfey, was Chief, Personnel Division at HDQTRS, was my ex Captain of RUSH, during the Vietnam Deployment.
I was able to get my Cutterman's Certificate, signed by him.
I'm thinking early 1975 ?? I got mine while in Jarvis, Went ashore for a bit in summer 1975. I think BMCM Calhoun got the proposal started just at the end of his tour as MCPO-CG.
Here's a reference to the insignia, if only the CG would start a project of putting these old sources online.
McClinton, J.L. "Cutterman's Insignia." The Bulletin (Jan-Feb 1975), p. 5.
Original criteria was strictly 5 years sea duty. One cutter, three cutters, no difference.

Thanks gents. Since I'm in the process of requesting my full service record, preparing to ask for them to straighten out some missing awards, I guess I'll ask them about the pin too.
Jack, Your C.O. (Durfey) was XO on one of the ships I was on. Might have been the Dexter, I can't recall now. He was one of the very good ones!
