Does anyone have the instructions on how to dye the ODU's. I think I remember there being a message, but I can't seem to find it.

The only thing I remember were some tips on the UDCs website. Did mine recently with one pack of black and one navy blue as per the instruction on the rite die pack. (3 sets of ODUs) Collar insignia did not survive well, but everything else did.

Go to PACAREA CMC Isherwood's wep page and click on his been there done that link. There's a step by step on how to dye your ODU's (two bottles of navy blue dye) I just did 2 sets using those instruction and they look great. The collar devices and name tapes were unaffected.
Cheers! Beer

MC,

BLACK AND BLUE? Confused Confused I use just the Navy blue in liquid form and follow the instructions. My collar insignia was ok this time around, but it is usually a "hit and miss" with them. Roll Eyes I think if the insignias are made from cotton that is when you have problems. Wink

Yeah the difference between black and Navy Blue is probably minimal. New collar devices are a buck a set - so no big deal.

2 Star Phil, They were silver shields on the anchor, they got maybe 1/2 shade darker but still overall the uniform looks better than it did faded to an almost purple hue.
No star "yet" Phil

Does anyone know what the ODU's original color is? I used Rit Dye in Navy, for the pants, but I got a different blue tone than the original. My blouses rarely get worn where I work, so I haven't had change in color like the pants. The dyed pants pulled to a dark purple rather than the original blue color. Any ideas?

Maybe the Navy/Black, works better.

I believe that it is the Dark Navy color. I dont have a bottle handy, but I think that last time I bought it there was 2 different Navy colors, Navy and Dark Navy.

Are you talking about using the Rit Dye products?
They don't have dark Navy, just Royal Blue, Denim Blue and Navy Blue.

On their site: to create a Dark Denim, 1 cup Navy Blue & 1/4 cup of Black.

After a week long of Trial and Error with dying my uniform (I know, I need a life), I found that black does indeed need to be added to the dye wash. If you don't, I found that you will just end up with a purplish blue hue.

1 bottle of Navy w/ 1/3 cup of Black, for a dark navy wash. If you prefer a medium navy wash, 1 bottle of Navy + 1/4 cup of Black. I suggest medium washes, opposed to dying a whole set of uniforms at once. Overcrowding will only encourage a tye-dye outcome.
Even my faded "Walmart Special" blue tees also came out perfect.
I would suggest removing all name taps and insignias prior to dying.
Yes it is a pain to re-sew, but at least you won't have to order new ones.

For reference 1 bottle of Rit Dye= 1 cup

Rit brand also puts out a "Denim" color dye, which I have not tried on the ODUs. Maybe next time.
