Okay, I posted a similar thread in the Army specific section but I figured this may pertain to other people in the ROTC program; I'm probably not the only one struggling with this, so I decided to also post here. Sorry if this is viewed as spamming, just thought other branches might need the answers as much as I do!
I'm looking to go into ROTC with the Reserve option of this coming fall as a sophomore and am currently in the physical/send medical information to DoD portion of the process. My dilemna is that I truly don't know what I want to major in and can either a) take two classes over the summer and lock in my sophomore status, taking only "core" classes until something finally sparks me and I decide what to do or b) not take the classes and still be considered a freshman, possibly messing up my processing for ROTC as I've already had my eye exam and go tomorrow for the physical... If I finish ROTC before I manage to complete my traditional classes, will it mess up my eligibility to commission in a Reserve unit? I'm hoping that something will spark my intrigue within the ROTC program and give me a sense of direction, so I kind of would like to be able to wait and take basic courses until I see what truly strikes my interest. Thoughts/advice?
When I was in AFROTC there were always a few people who finished their ROTC requirements before their degree. They were AS 700 cadets and didn't have a job in the corps. I would say to NOT take classes just to take them if you don't know what you want to do yet unless there was some conditional thing IN WRITING stating you would have to attain soph. status.
