Hi, my name is Francisco. Im 18, and enlisted about a month ago as a 35M, for 3 years. Im fresh out of highschool. And Im scheduled to go to basic June 18th. Im not too worried about Basic or AIT. Though my main concern is what happens after AIT. Ive read alot of different things, but I just want to know EXACTLY what happens. I know there is no sure way to know what duty station your going to. But my one question is, am I going to be sent over-seas for sure? Or is there a chance Ill stay in the states? And if I do stay in the states, what can I expect from a days work at my duty station? I apologize if this question seems redundant. But no post seems to clearly answer.
There absolutely is no way to know what your career will look like. It's a combination of what the needs of the Army are as viewed by your command and what you make of it.
I cannot imagine many 35M's spend their entire time CONUS though but it's possible. It depends on the war trace of your command and its taskings from above (what jobs your Bn and Co are asked to fulfill).
Whether you stay CONUS or go overseas, you can't know what your job will be or even if it will have ANYTHING to do with 35M. That's just the way the Army works. You might end up doing one of the various types of jobs listed in the job description (which vary greatly) or you might end up as a guard at a gate or the Colonel's driver somewhere - or doing any job of anyone else in the military.
You will never get an answer other than pretty much every deployment will be different from the last one and completely different from what your buddies do.
When I graduated last year, pretty much all of my comrades got sent to Europe and Korea. Only a few stayed in the States.
Try not to spend your time worrying about what it will be like after Basic and AIT because there is a lot you will have to go through before you get to your first duty station. Aim to get out of TRADOC first. If you can't finish there, you won't be going any place.

that sounds about right for my class too. If you are stateside prepare to do lots of meaningless details so if you want to be a mosqed gate guard or trash detail or motor pool worker then keep wishing for stateside. If you actually wanna do your job to some degree overseas in europe, africa, korea, and middle east is where you want to be.
I am glad you ae confident but i strongly urge you to pay attention to detail in the 35M course. It has a substantial fail and retrain rate.
My husband will graduate from AIT in Aug. When he re-uped he decided to change his MOS to 35M. We will be stationed at Fort Lewis, WA. Anybody been there before? I've never been to WA. Any help would be appreciated.

3 Months of the most amazing weather...followed by 9 months of rain...every day.

You know, I've lived there half my life, and maybe I just don't go out of doors much, but I've also lived in Hawaii, and it rains more and harder in Hawaii than it does in Western Washington. Just my 2 cents.
