GF is enlisting. I am prior Navy; I work for State now.

- Where are what MOS's (35M, 35N) usually stationed fresh out of AIT?

Also:
- is 35L open to junior enlisted?
- do you have to be E-5?
- As A-stan rages on will they drop the E-5 requirement?

I'd like people to figure the 20,000 additional soldiers and real-deal experiences into their answer, because I live here and of course she and I both want to be in the DC/VA?MD area. So no conject3ure, please - just real world, been there done that.

If there are any MI NCO's at Belvoir or on Pentagon duty that can help me out without doing anything frowned upon, please, let me know. I live right next to (2 miles away) from Fort Belvoir and we'd both prefer that or Quantico.

35M's first duty stations are units deploying within 6-12 months... Welcome to FORSCOM (always exceptions but that's how Branch operates)

35L is available for E5s and above, no longer open to initial entry soldiers. CI requirements is something you'll need to ask the Army G2 because no one here would have that answer.

I think getting a first duty station in the DC area might be difficult. I am from Manassas, and I tried several different ways to get a duty station around there. Fort Belvoir would be an option for my MOS, but it was only for E-6 and above.
There might be a decent chance of getting Fort Meade. Again, it depends on the MOS.

Confirmed:
she's going to be a 35F.
Clean record, as a security manager and someone who worked hand in hand with OPM for 4 years she will get a TS/SCI, no problem.

Maybe Pentagon watch floor in NMCC? I know a handful of 20-21 year old junior enlisted in the Navy that work on the watch floor, most of them aren't even E-5 yet.

So...35F's: good possibility of Fort Belvoir?

35F Jr enlisted at the Pentagon let alone NMCC? You're watching too many movies because that won't happen if she's army.

The 35F in my MI units would be lucky to do their jobs and were most likely running flight scheduling out of the '3 shop' - Ft Bel is a pipe dream too. She won't know her duty station until 1/2 thru AIT but prepare her for AFG or Korea duty.

The only reason I threw that out there (asking) was I KNOW PVT/SPC 42A's work at the Pentagon. Seen 'em, had to interact with 'em...they're there.

No movies, I was active duty. 35-series (and Army MI) is out of my lane - I don't know that world. So I asked. I only know Navy MI and a smattering of the USMC CI culture.

You say Ft Belvoir is a pipe dream - can I ask why? Is it because of her paygrade coming out of AIT or because they'll put her in BDE/BN and send her straight to A-stan?

Ft. Belvoir is considered one of the "better" bases and more sought after as a result.

35Fs get assigned to the Pentagon, when they're E6 and above with extensive work experience. Completely different to any 42A that pushes paper.

Initial entry soldiers don't typically get assignments to DC, they're placed in FORSCOM units in prep. for deployment.

Don't expect to see much of your girlfriend over the next 18 - 24 months.

42A's are a different deal. They seem to have a wider variety of duty assignments. I knew an E-4 that worked in the White House for almost a year. An assignment like that is much more rare for junior enlisted MI.
