I was just called by my recruiter and told of openings in both the 35T and 35W mos. He describes 35W as dealing w/ the electronic systems and 35T as an interrogator w/ gauranteed DLI.
I've searched online because I was pretty sure only 35Ms interrogate and a 35T is also systems maintenance. He asked me if I wanted to reserve the spot, 35T - while saying that this in no way would make my committment concrete - and I said yes.
After seeing what the mos actually is, I don't want it. Electronics is not what I'm good at or interested in. I tried calling him back to ask him to "unreserve" it and no one picked up. What should I do??
Also, the intel jobs that I am interested in are 35 F,M,P,&S -- if you have any extra input for those I'd appreciate it (like how often slots open up & general info). Thanks
I would take Joughin's advice but I would just skip the guy you currently have. He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about and may steer you wrong with other things like bonuses etc.
35M is interrogator and has an option for DLI (which will probably be required at some point or else necessitate a slide over to 35L at E=5).
35T is a technician and would NEVER be doing interrogation and wouldn't need DLI.
35W is a sigint linguist, which would get you into DLI but wouldn't be interrogating either. From what I understand, this is just a placeholder MOS to get you into 35P or 35N after DLI.

What kind of info are you looking for on 35S?

I am going to MEPS this Thursday & Friday (committing Fri). I got the 35T issue taken care of and am going to sign-on for 35W, six-year enlistment. I'll leave for BT in Jan and start DLI on 03 May. Prior college is getting me E-3. I could take some language test, not sure if it'd be the DLPT, to attain E-4 -- but I want DLI.
I've searched all over the boards and online, and I'm hoping for 35N. I saw on another post though, someone wrote that 35W more often leads to 35P -- is this still true (that post was from '07)?

I can only give you anecdotal evidence since I'm not a P or N, but I am the S3 NCOIC for my battalion and out of all the 35N's we have, only a handful are linguists, so I'd say that's true.
skipshot, I am at DLI right now. Every active duty person here who came in as a 35W becomes a 35P upon successful completion of their language course and AIT. I have known a few who failed out of their language course and reclassed into the 35N MOS, though. 35P AIT is indeed at Goodfellow. Where did you see the your AIT was at Huachuca? If you are enlisting as a 35W, then your AIT should be at Goodfellow. If you are enlisting as a 35T (which is basically computer networking for intel) then it is possible your AIT is at Huachuca. There are a few Guard folks here who are interrogators, but no active duty.
Ya, there must've been some typos in the initial MOS reservation. Currently, my BT is at Leonard Wood and AIT at DLI. There's no further listing after that. Should be at DLI in the first days of May.
Sorry to burst your bubble but DLI isn't considered AIT - It is language training and you'll end up with a follow on assignment to AIT after completion of DLI.
I don't have anything else to give other than: the info I wrote previously is how it's shown on my papers. However, I went to MEPS again today only to take the DLAB -got a 114- and after DLI, I'll go to Goodfellow for 27 weeks.
So it's something like 88 weeks total + a 5 week separation between BT and DLI...anyway, I'm hoping for Russian or Farsi.
If you think something is in fact really wrong though, let me know.
skipshot, everything sound like it's right. I would caution in trying to make any kind of exact predicition as to how long any of this will be. Over that much time, things inevitably get changed. The length of time you are at DLI will depend on the language you get, when you're course starts and graduates, if you get rolled back, etc. etc...
Incidently, you will go straight from BCT to DLI. Any time between your BCT graduation and when your class starts at DLI will be at DLI acting as a "casual".
