You haven't been looking very long and if you want combat, then join the infantry

"Let the blood of the infantry flow through your veins,or the blood of the infantry will be on your hands."
-GEN John A. Wickham, Jr. speaking on the responsibilities of MI soldiers.

I was a 33S20 Electronic Warfare Systems Technician in the 329th ASA attached to the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea ( 1976-77). We were always on the DMZ listening in on North Korea as well as listening in on the Infantry, Armor, & Cav. units. It was our job to see that they used simple procedures like challenge & authenticate. We worked towards helping them keep a tight lid on their own security procedures.

You probably want to be a Humint guy. When I was deployed as a 35F (all-source Analyst) we'd work with those guys all the time, but while we were stuck in the TOC working behind a computer 12 hours a day, the Humint guys actually went on missions with combat patrols and got a chance to talk to civilians.

And if you really wanted a so called "exciting MI job" I would really just go infantry. For me I thought working as an analyst behind a computer was pretty darn exciting sometimes. Every job has its own rewards.

I'm a 96B well I guess it's 35F now and I'm in an infantry unit and my Captin sends me out with the infantry on every mission I prepare the intel for.

You're right banks. A lot of it will really just depend on what unit you get assigned too. Some supervisors will actually let you go on missions, some will prefer you to stay in the TOC and just work behind a computer.

The job of one MOS in a unit can sometimes be almost completely different from the same MOS in another unit. I knew some counter intel guys who were stuck at the front gate just checking IDs, but I also knew some of them from a different unit that actually performed investigations and ran missions outside the wire.
