Hello MI board, I just have a few questions about a 96U as this is my back-up plan. I'm currently applying for WOFT but in the event I don't get selected, I would definitely like to get a job as a TUAV operator. I realize it is covered by MI and not aviation but I think if I am to spend a year doing a job before I resubmit a WOFT packet I would enjoy this a lot more.
I say I have questions, I only really have one. With the different types of UAVs, does that govern where you go when deployed? What I mean by this is that the Shadow appears to be launched from a FOB or somewhere in the rear. However, something like the Raven seems to be taken along with a small unit and used to survey the immediate AO.
Does that mean if I was a Raven operator, I would be attached to a unit out in the field and deploy the UAV when they needed it?
Ravens aren't flown by 96Us... so don't worry you'll be nice and safe on the big ole FOB. No worries there darlin

For 96U, you will be a Hunter or Shadow operator when coming out of AIT. Hunter does require a lot more space and more support to launch. There are only a handful of locations in Iraq/Afghanistan that launch Hunter, and these places tend to be bigger than a FOB you would launch a Shadow from.

Still the Hunter and Shadow?
Dang, we need something more suited to persistent surveillance and SIGINT.
So, are they still 96Us or 35Ks? I see some places saying 35K is an Automatic Equipment Tester or something. Which MOS identified would I be looking for on the ol' contract?

It's probably being handled the same way the 35CMF transition was handled - anyone in the training pipeline that will graduate after October 1 is being coded with the new MOS.
