Looking for some legit information about life during AIT at Huachuca. Just got home from BCT on exodus and you know how the rumor mill runs, kids saying this and that about AIT. From my understand if your a highspeed soldier from BCT and have a good PT score (somthing like 230+?) life is pretty casual during AIT? Anyone who is training there atm (pref a 35F) or a former DS etc... what was your exp? phone time, internet access, food privleges, gym access, visitors? Thank you for any correct information, please no rumors and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
P.S. and a Happy New Year |

Regardless of your PT score in BCT, you will probably be doing the same PT as everyone else in the company. The only exception is that if you fail your PT test, you may be put on remedial PT.
As soon as you arrive, you will be phase 4. You can have your cell phone but no other electronics. This usually lasts a few weeks and then you are moved to Phase 5. Depending on which company you go to, you may either be in barracks or bays. For internet access, you can always go use the computers at the mini-mall. If you are in barracks you will be able to get cable internet in your room. Eifler Gym is extremely close and you will have time to go there in the evenings and on the weekends. Let me know if you have any other questions. I really don't know much about your training specifically, but I have answers about AIT life at Huachuca. |

You're in good hands. You are going to be in total shock when you get there fresh out of BCT. When I got there, we had to stay in a bay with another platoon that had 5+ privileges, so the DS's didn't bother taking our electronics. I spent my whole first week (hold-under time) playing Halo 2.
When I first got there, I was on 72 hr lock-down. I don't know if they still do this, but it's a joke of a lock-down compared to what you'll be used to from BCT. Basically, you just can't leave Prosser Village, but everything you could want (within reason) is there anyway. The only reason you'd have to want to leave Prosser Village would be to go off post or to the PX, but that time will ocme soon enough. Definitely do your best at PT before you get there though because the altitude is a real bugger (you're a mile above sea-level). Also, if you fail a PT test, you'll probably get put on remedial PT, so while everyone else is relaxing, talking to their family on the phone, jumping on the internet... you'll be doing PT. You'll learn really quick to forget about the darn internet cafe (IC), and just go to the MI Library. There's free internet, coffee/hot chocolate, and popcorn there; plus, there is a decent collection of movies you can check-out at no cost. If you have any further specific questions, don't be shy. Ft. Huachuca is a great installation. Note: The above information was true when I went through (Jul-Nov, 2006), but things change. Forgive me if I have put my foot in my mouth. |

Jrome305:
I just left AIT at for Huachuca in August, so my experiences are still quite recent. Your privelages will be based upon the type of soldier you are, as well as how your platoon and company acts during the week. As long as everyone keeps their head in the right place you shouldn't have any problems. An entire bay got revoked of their 5+ privelages because of a cleanliness issue. As far as what you can expect: Depending on which unit you go to, you may be able to have POV. I was in F-Co 309th (which was for HUMINT), so they knew we were going to be there for at least 18 weeks. We were able to do our own thing come 1700 on Fridays and as long as you were signed out you didn't have to return until 1700 on Sunday (provided you don't have CQ or Fireguard). Right before we left they informed us that we would not have bedchecks any longer provided you are 5+, stating that it was a new TRADOC SOP coming down. I'm not sure if that has changed since then, but definately make sure you keep your head on straight so you don't get it taken away. |

Hey, Pendletone, I'm in Fox. co right now! You must've been in 2nd plt.
Most of the posts here seem pretty accurate, from my experiences anyway. You'll get there and you'll be in phase 4 (no civvies and you cant leave Prosser Village) for a few weeks. Then you get moved up to phase 5 and you can take overnight passes and wear your civvies when you're off duty. You have a different MOS than me, so I cant say what it will be like for you, but we dont get released until about 1800 on weekdays and we have weekend training every saturday, except for holidays. Sunday is ours though and depending on your phase privliges, you can do whatever you want. PT sucks at Huachuca. Its really high and if you're not a good runner it will affect your run time for a while at first. But it gets better as you get use to the altitude. All in all, Fort Huachuca is a pretty great place, provided you have the right attitude. Good luck! |

I'll be arriving there as and E6 for 35M. What should I expect with regards to living and off duty?
As far as PT, I haven't scored under 290 on the APFT yet... |

That's great! I left there around the end of August... so I may have seen you at one point or another. So what phase of training are you in now? Have you got your orders yet?? |

I got there on the 24th...I think you guys were already graduated by then. We have IPT two weeks after we get back. I'm a little nervous, lol. But it should be ok. My whole OMT group is doing really well, so hopefully we all make it through! We are suppose to get our orders any time now, I've got my fingers crossed for Bragg.

Hey pendletone and tori,
I am going to 96B/35F training on Jan 9th. Any other info about the first 2 weeks (really how long might it be till I get priviledges, what can I have or not have, do you live and die as a PLT like in Basic or is it more individual in AIT) that has not already been discussed in this post. I am kinda worried as I was no split op for 4 months and hurt my leg real bad. It is healed know, but I am out of shape as for running, do I have any time to get in shape when I get there or am I probably boned. I could get 70 points in the run before I was injured (last weekend in oct). I thank you in advance for any help that you can give me. |

You will be fine. The reclass soldiers deffinetly live much better than the AIT soldiers. The only downside (which can be huge depending on your PLT) is that since they are phasing out DS the reclass soldiers end up picking up a lot of the slack (i.e. movements, PT, Saturday training). However once you're done for the day you're done. |

Yes, they are phasing out Drill Sergeants, but they arent actually going anywhere. They just wont wear the hats anymore. The DS's (now just Sergeants) will still be there to take care of business and run the platoons/company. |

You may want to reconsider posting their names. |

You most likely won't take a PT test for at least two weeks. It is a requirement to gain your phase V privileges which, according to tradoc regulation, you are supposed to acquire after three weeks in phase IV. If you do fail your PT test, they usually have one once a week for the remedial PT folks. Its not the end of the world but definitely something you want to get out of the way. |

I was there as a reclass myself. It's not that bad, really. You really want to be in E Co. though. F Co. treated their MOS-T's a little worse than E Co. did. You will definately have to be both an NCO and a student during the week, as well as assist A LOT in Saturday training. I am/was an E-4 when I went through not too long ago (around the same time as pendletone, who lives right down the hall from me), and I was still tapped for a lot of additional training and mentoring of IET soldiers. If you want any specific info on the area and things to do, feel free to contact me via AKO. |

DS Dewebber is the only person I know who can win a game of connect four in only three turns. |

I just graduated the 35F course at Huachuca on 18DEC07. I was in C Co 305 MI BN. PT out there isn't bad, if you aren't used to a high elevation, dry air, and running about 4-5 miles on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, running might be hard for you. We did muscle failure on Tuesdays and Thursday which lasted about an hour on average and it wasn't anything I would complain about. As far as privileges... they never took any of our electronics unless you left them unsecured.(Not a wise idea) I had my cell phone, and laptop the whole 4.5 months there, and there were plenty of 360s and PS3s to keep us busy. Phasing is pretty simple, phase 4 is no smoking, day passes only, phase 5 you can smoke and take over night passes, and phase 5+ you can have accountability passes(basically you can leave for the night on the weekend, but come back whenever you want, like 3 am from the bar). I can't really talk a lot about the classes due to OPSEC, but I will say, they are paced so everyone can keep up, stay awake. As far as Sierra Vista... it's a very small town, mall/movie theater lots of bars.(If you aren't 21 it's probably going to suck) That's really all I can think of.... Over all it wasn't all that bad, just make sure you don't do ANYTHING to mess up your clearance and try and stay off the negative side of the radar.

Reclass and a turn-coat from the Air Force. I'm seriously gonna punch you for that. I don't care about your reasons. |
