I'm sure this topic comes up a lot on these boards so sorry for being a repeat but I want to know if it is possible to get a guaranteed admission into "A" school with your contract. I've heard that it is difficult to get, but I will be graduating from a 4 year college in May 2010 and have heard that with a college degree you can have some pull in your contract negotiation. Just wondering and any responses will be appreciated.

With a college degree, it would be easier to apply for Officer Candidate School, but it will provide no "pull" whatsoever that will guaranteed admission into any A-School.

Two things:

1. The Coast Guard does not guarantee aviation A-Schools. They do not deny them, either. You can go to any A-School you are qualified to attend.

2. The Coast Guard does not "negotiate" contracts.

Good Luck,

MV

I thought I had read some posts on the old Recruiter forum where there were some schools that were guaranteed. Since that thread is gone though I can't point to any specific posts.

Even at that, I don't recall ever seeing that AST school was ever one of them. I think it might have only been for ratings that were short people.

I think Guarnteed "A" school is a bit misleading. Guarteed "A" school is not really a guarntee that you will get it. It's just that you'll get it right out of bootcamp. You'd still get it if you were qualified and simply waited at a unit.

JD,

Guarnteed isn't a word. It doesn't need to be capitalized either.

Also, "Guarteed" isn't a word, either. In this case, since it is the beginning of the sentence, capitalization is authorized.

Do you mean "guaranteed"?

Please utilize Dictionary.com or spell check. You make all of us look like idiots when you don't.

GrammarSheriff,
Who died and left you in charge?
May have misspelled as we all are inclined to do on here in the heat of the moment.
Where is the CAPITALIZATION? Are you addressing multiple posters here? WTF?
And if you are SA Billy Bob, I commend your bravery on being so forth-coming with your identity.

According to the profile that would be SR Billy Bob. I think a more accurate profile would read "Troll".

Communication skills are used for one person to convey an idea or thought to another and have that person under stant it as the send had meant. The idea that we are beeing embarased is yours and yours only, so if it bi=others you, please keep it to yourself or find a discussion board that is used primarily by english majors. Might like thier topics better anyway.

As far as getting the school you want...if its not guaranteed then if you have the scores just wait...great things come to those who do. The time spent in anticipation of doing a job for an entire carrer is worth it and during that time should you have a change of heart then you can switch schools.

That was my intent to make us all look like at idiots.

Mission Complete.

Actually the truth is, What I do reflects on me, and what you do reflects on you. So next time you try public humiliation (is that spelled right) as a tactic to change someone, think how is that going to look on me. And if your rule stands that it makes us look like idiots...your post makes all look like *******s. My grammar, it does need work. And I am working on it. Spell check, is a crutch and interrupts the process. I choose not to use it so that I may learn. It's like using a calculator to get better at math. I would actually like to be smarter, not just portray an illusion of it.
