Hey guys,
Well I have been trying to complete a flight physical for about a year now, and finally when I get it all done and over with the flight surgeon tells me that I am disqualified for 12 months because of a kidney stone I had back in April 2007. Now I was talking to someone at the medical center and they said that sometimes at headquarters they over-rule a failed flight physical if they think that I would be fit for flight, or I can submit a waiver to excuse the issue. Has anybody had any experiences with this or anything like it. I am cleared for everything else and I would be #3 on the AST "A" school list!!! This is so frustrating!!

Thanks for your help.

Waivers are generally on a case by case basis. I am not so sure that as AST's waivers are in our scope of professional knowledge. Someone may have experience but I think (and that is dangerous for me to do) that yours could be very diverse from others.

My advice would be: use your chain of command to initate an attempt to get a waiver. Going around the chain generally is poor professional conduct.

The dog speaketh smart!

Always use your chain of command. Nothing worse than blind-siding the very people you need as advocates. Putting in the request chit can unleash a powerful force for you.

Someone, maybe the Chief, Department Head, or CO/XO has the magic phone number or email address directly to the folks that pull the yes/no lever on this issue. It takes time, be patient, and always have a good backup plan or two.

Get on line and jump into the medical manuals; specifically Aviation Physiology sections. You will read exactly what they have to follow.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the responses, I intend to go through my chain of command to try to resolve this, I know that bypassing them would be a huge mistake. I will try to look in the medical manuals to figure out exactly why a kidney stone is disqualifying. Thanks guys cant wait to get off my 378!!!!
