Wondering what ages you all were when you entered the Coast Guard and also when you started A school. I graduated from college last month and am about to turn 24.
17 when I enlisted, and 19 when I went to ASM A school. I remember a few of the guys I went with, Tunks, Nelson, Jenson or Jensing? Arrrr it was a long time ago in Lakehuerst, NJ Peace,
Good afternoon everyone. Just discovered this area of Military.com, so I'll just join the crowd. Joined the CG at 18, went to ASM School at 20 (Lakehurst, NJ). Went through RS School in Pensacola at 31 and retired in 2001 at 41
I am also a recent college grad and have been thinking about joining and being an AST for some time now. What rank would I be when I finished basic training and how long would I have to wait to get into A school?
Seems like a few college grads in here looking to become AST. I'll throw my hat in the ring as well. Graduated college just over a year ago, just shy of contracting, one last medical issue to resolve before I can sign my sanity away. Way I figure, I'll be facing my first assignment about the time I turn 25, hopefully into AST somewhere between my 26th and 27th birthdays. Still in the realm of the possible?
I would think you college boys would want to drive vs ride in any of the Coast Guard aircraft platforms. Also with four years of college behind you there are a lot of options open to you and I would look at all the services and see what they had to offer as far as flying and special training as well as looking into some of the other goverment agencies.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've done both. Flown aircraft, and jumped out of them, and enjoyed jumping out of them more. Been a lifeguard and saved a life before, promised myself I would do it again.
I'm in the same boat, I have been a competitive swimmer my whole life, and a life guard at a beach with pretty extreme conditions. I know there are other options but to possibly be an AST really fires me up and excites me.
