Looking for information on when we started to use this helmet. Currently seting up a small exibit and will have one on disply. I know we used them on the HH52, HH3, HU16, HH60. Were there any others? HC130 for drops? Helmet I have is from 1981, understand we stoped useing for the blue helmet somewhere around 1992. Any old timers around when we started with this one? (white with retro tape,) The one we have also has the velcro over the rh side of the sheild cover, when was this added? Thanks, AMTC Lloyd

That's the helmet I used, clear and dark visor and the velcro was for strob/ELT. Clunky, heavy old helmet that we could decorate as we wanted with the reflective tape.

Fly straight,
Dick

Chief, if I remember correctly (which isn't to often) the SPH-3 replaced the APH-6 I believe around 74 or 75 timeframe. The Helmet was used in every aircraft that performed search and rescue. The velcro was added mid seventies as well, after a few Navy incidents that reqired the surviving aircrews to hold the strobe light with one hand and work flares and such with the other hand (not a good use of resources).
Hope this helps.
