i have asked this question before but i cannot find it in the forums. i have searched for it.
i know becoming an AST takes at least 2 years according to what i read on here. if you sign up for 4 years is 2 years of that time training for AST and then 2 years standing duty? if not how long do you have to fully serve? i think i read that it was 29 months? thats 2 years and 5 months. so is it really 4.5 years of being an AST or am i just completely lost?
It can take up to 2 years but it all depends on how fast you make e-3. Then you have to wait on the AST a school list with the rest of the non-rates. Once your name moves to the top you will recieve orders to an airstation where you will be in a 4 month airman program. During which you train with duty standing swimmers before "A" school. If you prove yourself worthy to your shop they will send you to the 18 week AST "A" school. If you graduate you must serve 30 months after you graduate. Good luck

By proving yourself "worthy", does that mean displaying the right attitude, doing well on written tests, having excellent athletic ability, or something else?
