Hey Guys/Gals,

Are there any Paramedics within the AST Rating. I am a BM and a National Registered Paramedic. Just wanting to know about how many Paramedics are in the CG and thought your rate would have the most. Thanks and be safe!!

I currently still have my paramedic license, I worked as a paramedic however before I joined the Coast Guard.

Don't have a true number, but the numbers are small for those AST's that are current at the NREMT-P level. Those that hold a current NREMT-P acquired the training on their own time and dime.

I think its a great skill set to have for our rating; plus it has always given me the opportunity to work on the outside and build up the old resume and make connections outside the CG.

While one of our planes was broken away from station here in NOLA, our RS was approached and offered a full time job as a flight medic. (paramedic required)

7 on 7 off with a starting salary near 90k.

Apparently a canadian company is taking over for rig medivacs that occur down here for several of the "big oil" companies. The pilots are all prior service military.

Just passing what he said and with our professional background getting on would be a piece of cake since they are just now starting off.
