I'm 26 and will be leaving for Cape May on June 23rd for basic (getting in a little late in the game). Just curious if anyone out there knows if it is possible to get on the AST waiting list as a BM reserve, then once my name came up I could sign active papers and enter A school? Is this possible? Have any of you professionals seen anyone else do this?

no never seen it. I am not an Admin expert...But I am sure in order to put your name on an AD "A" school list, you have to be active, especially for a school that has lots and lots people who want to do it. But this is not an AST question it's an admin question.
You need to fill out a "Conditional Release From Active Duty" (even if you're a Reservist) form and submit it. If it's accepted, you'll be discharged from the Reserve and brought into Active Duty under a guaranteed A-school contract. The downer is you'll be bumped down to E-3 until you finish your new A-school. I've seen it before. It's a fairly stressful process, but if it's something you really want, it's worth the hassle.
