Well I'm obviously very interested in possibly becoming an AST, but I have a few questions, that I can't seem to find the answers for. The first question is about the security clearence. What exactly do they look or search for in your background. I mean I was a good kid growing up and didnt get into trouble with the law or even in shcool. But about a year ago i was hit with a dui (im an idiot, I know) Now the judge said it will be off my record. So will the coast guard still be able to find that, and then me becoming screwed? And the second question is, once your outa the coast guard you are practically certified for being a helicopter emt, correct?

The qualification you recieve is Nationally registered Basic Emergency Medical Technician. Though your experience flying maybe looked at. My experience is most flight medical services give Aircrew positions from within thier own organization. So, If you are wanting to get out and be a flight medic. I have not ever heard of anyone getting out of the Coast Guard and has been hired on as a flight medic.

As for the security clearance. Be honest and complete. The D.U.I should not hinder your ability to get a clearance. The word is they are looking for crazy people, liars, people with ties to the bad guys, or people in trouble finacially. This Security Clearance is for national security purposes not for hiring purposes.
