I know that you have to be full time for AST. Sadly at 38, that's not an option right now.
My heart lies in the directon of helping search and rescue etc. I am a good swimmer (competing), I'd love to tie that in directly--though see it's not high proability now. Maybe this is the wrong spot to ask, I'm curious what's an older reservist likely to be able to do in the "rescue" arm of the service beyond driving the boats or manning ops--which would still be gratiying if they were the only options. I know you all have earned the right to say there is no next best thing to RS. Just curious if you had any tips, or thoughts. |

WannjoinCGR,
The primary mission of the reserves is to get ready to be deployed. That about it. With that being said we do do search and rescue when the need arises. (out on Patrol and job comes in) Lots of reservists were deployed for Katrina in a search and rescue and law enforcment role. There may come a time when we return to the SAR role but not in the near future. Good luck with your search. Hope you find a nitch in the CG. It's a great job. |

Thanks for the encouragement XCGSWIMMER!
Didn't want it to sound "wannabeish," like I am joining to be an RS, that said the documentary on TV the other night was very inspiring for the service as a whole. Right now, I'll be happy just to get through MEPS |
