We landed at White Horse and explored the old deserted mines for a bit while flying up the coast of Alaska out of Sitka. I got to say even more interesting than the places I flew too were the characters I flew with! Cool

The CG was a lot different then and had many more high endurance cutters and more sea going missions. I was a Gunner's Mate and Vietnam provided a lovely opportunity to travel.... Wink

At that time GM was primarily a sea going rating. I was on 7 ships overall. Only shore duty was boot camp and GM school.

+/-35 years ago:::
Guam, Saipan, Angaur, Babeldaob, Koror, Yap, Ulithi, Okinawa, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Alaska, Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina, and, while on the Minnie: Ocean Station November Red Face)

But like AM3driscoll says: “I got to say even more interesting than the places I flew too were the characters I flew with!” They made the trips memorable!

Yep. The Morganthau is in the Far East now and another 378 is somewhere around Africa. They have also sent ships to the mideast.

Icebreakers, of course, go where there's lots of ice.....to get there they hit lots of good ports.
