hey everyone. I'm just trying to build a better understanding of the reach of the coast guard.. whats the most exotic (or just the nicest) place you've ever visited while on duty in the CG?
i didnt know where else to post this question, i hope you guys don't mind..
We landed at White Horse and explored the old deserted mines for a bit while flying up the coast of Alaska out of Sitka. I got to say even more interesting than the places I flew too were the characters I flew with!

what was your job in the coast guard? were you on a cutter for a long time?
The CG was a lot different then and had many more high endurance cutters and more sea going missions. I was a Gunner's Mate and Vietnam provided a lovely opportunity to travel....
At that time GM was primarily a sea going rating. I was on 7 ships overall. Only shore duty was boot camp and GM school.
+/-35 years ago::: Guam, Saipan, Angaur, Babeldaob, Koror, Yap, Ulithi, Okinawa, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Alaska, Mexico, California, Oregon, Washington, North Carolina, and, while on the Minnie: Ocean Station November )
But like AM3driscoll says: “I got to say even more interesting than the places I flew too were the characters I flew with!” They made the trips memorable!
