i recently got my name on the a school list, got my syllabus and started to look it over. Basically Im wondering if upon reporting to the airman program you need to be able to do all the drills in the weeks 1-8 parts. I know it would be helpfull, but in the event you cannot do some right off the bat if youd be booted. I read on another thread that someones buddies quit after a pool day filled with underwater drills, and i didnt know if they willingly quit or if they showed up, couldnt do it, and were sent along without getting time to practice and hopefully improve. Thanks

I'm willing to bet that person couldn't swim. Most people can't or aren't good swimmers when they get to the AN program. My advice, get to a pool and swim laps, most likely your local YMCA, also get yourself in good cardio shape. Good luck
Technically when you get to the An program you do not have to be able to pass anything. You will be given the PT in test, if you fail you have 1 month to perform the pt intest.
If you are in the pool and doing a drill that you are having a hard time with but it is not a testable item, they cannot just up and fire you. You will get what is called a MARs, basically a paper that documents the incident. get a enough MARs the staff can initate a board for Disenrollment. A board consists of three people....folks out of rate. They hear your story and the staff memembers recommending disenrollment. Then they make a decsion. But it is tough if you have not failed a testable item. If you fail testable items, that is much easier for you to get disenrolled.
Jake, I will tell you this. Quit thinking about how people are getting disenrolled, or are failing. Starting thinking about how you are going to succeed. how people fail is irrelevant to how people graduate school.

Anyone know where I can get a copy of the syllabus, or a list of drills that are required? When I train in the pool, I'd like to have an idea of the goals I should be shooting for.
Could someone please clarify a few things in the Pool Training section of the syllabus??
- What are the Rxed time for Brick treads? - " distance for brick laps, lap tracers, underwaters, Half and Halfs? - 3 Part Combo Drill - how many reps of each part before moving on?
Full gear with all of the drills? (Mask, Snorkel, Fins.. don't have access to TRITON)
I want to be sure that my covering of this section is done correctly so I can be ready. Much appreciated!
If you take your time and look through the Syllabus it will explain each drill and time for each drill in full detail. You are not expected to come into the program and be able to complete each and every one of these drills right off the bat. The Syllabus is meant to slowly build you up for school while you're a airman therefor you will have plenty of time to get ready.
As swim hard stated you are not required...nor is it advisable for you to start on the syllabus with out guidance from a Qualified Mentor. The intest is Easy, It's what my little sister does to warm-up. That's all you need to pass. If you start I guarntee you are going to the exercises wrong, your form will be bad...and you could hurt yourself...and you WILL make our job more diffcult, because we will have to spend the time to untie all the crappy knots you tied.
Get in the pool, And go have fun. You have 8 months of training. It's all been planned, that includes teaching you. It works....right now, you have very little to gain...and everything to lose. I know it's hard sitting on your hands. But sit on them.
