So, I'm seventeen and I'm looking to join the Army Reserves. I'm not exactly an active sort of person, but I'm not inactive either. The only real physical activity I've done is dance. Now I need to get into shape and build up the endurance to keep running. Any suggestions???

I got a couple of suggestions for you, but realize these suggestions is from a Martial Artist whose been doing this for over the last 16 years since he was 4 years old and it will take you some getting used to on doing these.

Goto a Gym and do Weight and Aeorbics Training.

Order a P90X from beachbody.com, TaeBo, Perfect Push Up or Cableflex which Jackie Chan used his self, or do these exercises that i'm about to name off.

Push Ups, Chair Push Ups, Sit Ups, Sit Ups, Crunches, Frog Kicks, Leg Raises, Leg Lifts, Bicycles, Chair Dips, Squats, Bicep Curls, Hammer Curls, Tricep Push Backs, Run atleast 3 miles a day, but before you get to 3 miles a day go through doing little at a time and if you need any help with this contact me at here and i will give you my private email through emailing me through here because this email is more for my career than anything for info on anything.

Sincerly,
Brandon

Your Welcome! Join Martial Arts, Do something like Karate, Kung Fu or Mixed Martial Arts, In each categlory their are many forms of styles, In Karate you got Shotokan, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Tang Soo Do, American Karate, Toso Kune Do Karate and many more, In Kung Fu you got Wing Chun, Wushu, Primantos, Five Styles of Animal, Shaolin and many more, In Mixed Martial Arts you have Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilain Jiu-Jitsu and Greco-Roman Wrestling) plus other styles which don't relate to Karate, Kung Fu and Mixed Martial Arts are Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and Capoeira (Brazilian Dance Martial Art), You could also train in Jun Fan Gung Fu which is also know as Jeet Kune Do the style i have trained in along with my other forms of Karate, Kung Fu and Mixed Martial Arts along with Capoeira and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu.

Sincerly,
Brandon

A Handstand Push Up is where you are on your hands holding your body weight up and you bring your hands down slowly, verly slowly and back up, You should do atleast 5 Sets of 20 Reps, but since your a beginner try doing 3 Sets of 5 Reps.

Visit Runners' World Online - they have various sections on training, including one for military runners.

Also, do some google searches for military physical fitness. For example, the site for USN Divers has a fairly solid workout routine. You'll also find the same probably for Rangers, etc.

Have you talked to the track coach at school for any suggestions?
