Well I just bought one of those nice digital scales and I've weighed myself in the morning, afternoon, and at night and it seems that my weight is the lowest in the afternoon by up to 4 pounds. Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks. Before anyone says anything about weighing myself a bunch of times I was just curious to see what my weight was at different times of the day. |

Yeah that is the one I've been recording. I was interested because I got the new scale but then I discovered my weight gain was pre-menstrual water weight. So since I've started recording my weight on 8/17 I have lost 7.8 pounds. I love waking up in the morning!!!

What I've noticed is my body weight fluctuates so much I don't even bother with using it as a guide to whether or not I am losing weight. I can be 135 one day and 133 the next, and it probably is water or a result of premenstrual hormones. Also if I eat a lot of high fiber foods, my weight drops. I gain some around the time I ovulate, thanks to my inner biology being contrary to the fact I am not interested in gaining weight to grow a baby. Because of all that, it gets really frustrating to use a scale that jumps all over and it can be discouraging. What to do? I just use how my clothes fit, and how I look in a mirror, to see my progress. I do not even care if I will ever be my "ideal" of 125 lbs (I am 5'3"). My body fat is way less than it could be. It's just a damn number, that doesn't take into account my build or body shape. I threw my scale away in disgust years ago and have been happy ever since.

I took a health class in college and the prof said you should weigh yourself before and after a work-out to judge if you are properly hydrated. If you weigh less than you did before the workout it is all sweat you lost and you need to keep drinking water until you are up to your pre-workout weight. I've never tried it, I just remember her saying that. |

I usually weigh 176-178, but after running seven miles and then half an hour on the eliptical I drop down to 171. I've got to keep a bottle of water with me and start drinking, it's a bad habit for me to burn off 1,100 calories and sweat so much with just a few sips of water from the fountain. I guess it's a habitual carryover from Basic and ROTC. We'd have PT without water bottles or fountains.

Normal fluctuation is 3-5 pounds a day. I myself can gain that everyday and can also lose it everyday as well. My body is all maessed up from when I use to lift weights alot and take alot of supplements. Ok, the best time to weigh is in the morning before you eat or dink anything. and then only do it 1-2 a week. anymore than that will play mind games with you. Eat healthy and exercise. Matter of fact it's time to take heed of my own advice. 30 pounds gone here we go.
