Ok this has been on my mind for quite a bit. But no one has really been able to answer my questions. Not even my recruiter.
I have been a vegetarian for the past 5years.
I have been told that I am not going to make it in bootcamp.
What should I do? Will Drill Instructors get on my case about it? Would it be healthy for me to keep to my vegetables with all the extensive training?

I am also a vegetarian, and I've been reading a lot about the issue everywhere I can.
Honestly, I've received a lot of flack for being a vegetarian, and I think that the military environment, where there are accepted norms and anything outside that is taboo, it would probably be worse. I was in a private school where most of the kids were military, and I was made fun of, but they got used to it. Now, unless I am asked, I just don't mention it. Just keep it to yourself unless the topic comes up.
As for eating, from what I've read, there ARE (disgusting) vegetarian meals available. But you have to think about the situations you might find yourself in. If you are in a war zone, and there is very little food available, and most of it is dried meat, what will you do? Personally, I am a vegetarian because I simply love animals more than the meat they provide. However, if I am starving, I'll be honest, I would be willing to eat some meat to survive. And if my doctor told me that I needed to add a certain meat, I would consider adding it. My dream is to be a veterinarian, and I would probably be involved with animal welfare standards. As long as the animals are not mistreated, I don't see a problem with eating their meat.

I think that you could make it in training, but it would be harder for you than for the average person. There are vegetarians in the service, but they do have to endure some ridicule from their buddies, and horrible tasting food. Personally, I'm game for it if I ever get in. You just have to make the decision as to whether you are.
