Hello:

I am a 59 y.o. diabetic male, 5'10" and 207 lbs. I have been trying to lose weight for some time but have been unsuccessful. I have disability (sciatic nerve damage) and osteoarthritis in both my cervical and lumbar spine, shoulders, hips, and knee. Can you suggest some low impact exercises? I have been walking but when I do so for more than couple of miles my pain becomes intense. I do some water aerobics but cannot lift my arms over my head to swim laps.

I appreciate any advice.

Bob, bicycle riding, even a stationary type, might work for you. You might also consider using a 'boogie board' in the water....hold it ahead of you and use your legs for propulsion.

Bob---check out your local Y, they should have a water program for folks with arthritis. I'm 37 and have 'early onset arthritis', low-impact/no-impact is recommended. Impact irritates and inflames, and with the areas you mentioned that are affected.....swimming is your best bet. Smile
I've been to the classes, they're wonderful and effective. When visiting my folks one Christmas, I got talked into going to a water aerobics class with her....my mama was the youngest one in the class of regulars...lol...and she was just 61. Most of the folks there had a wide range of issues, but mostly arthritis and other joint issues. Was good stuff, I actually really liked it. The ladies went off into groups and gabbed all thru the workout--while working out. Wink But it was truly fun and everyone seemed to like hanging out together.
Give it whirl, I think it'll help you a lot. Smile

I used to have bad 'tennis elbow" I began to take fish oil capsules from Twinlab .
The tennis elbow is just a memory now . In couple of weeks I saw a difference in a month it was gone.
Ofcourse see your doctor ask him/her . For me its great truly worked .
A few others I know who use it say same thing big difference . The liquid works bit faster but taste fairly bad . Its worth a try
