I'll be 17 in 3 months 22 days, and in the process of getting my GED long story shot I am home schooled and I am not able to return to public school to finish my senior year.

I'm about 6'3, 6'4 and weigh approximately 280lbs. In regards to exercise I am not sure to what I should be doing, I know that I wont loose weight over night but I am determined to do this as it's my life dream to serve in the military.

As far as exercise is going I'm currently doing push ups, sit ups and walking/running(doing intervals). For sit ups and push ups, I'm following the one hundred push ups, and two hundred sit ups programs.

What else should I be doing exercise wise? I have no money for a gym membership so that is out of the question, I plan on buying some weights when I'm able to which I am not sure when that is as my family is tight on cash at this current time.

If you know any thing else I should be doing or anything that will help me get to my goal please tell me.

First off, have you seen your doctor? That's the very first step in order to make sure you don't set yourself up for failure.

Now, let's talk about weight. I don't know about the other branches, but for the Navy a Sailor standing 6'4" should weigh no more that 221 lbs if male and 205 lbs if female. Only two ways you are going to get there are diet and exercise. Diet means watching portions, making different choices in what you eat, and staying away from the garbage folks will try to convince you to use. Most of that stuff has not been subjected to serious research to document if it works or not.

If you can, look for a program that will help you learn to eat smarter based on what you find at the grocery store or resturant - stay away from the plans that require you to eat their food. You can exercise until you drop, but it's no good if you turn right around and get a nice greasy slider with fries and a regular (not diet) soda.

As to the exercise options, here's a few more to work with:

1. If you have a car, try to park further away from the store to walk some more distance. If you use mass transit, try to get off at a stop before the normal stop and walk the extra distance. Of course, make sure the area is safe to do this in.

2. If at a mall, try to stay away from escalators and use the stairs. Same at home if you live in an apartment building/condo.

3. Weights - use a couple of old bleach jugs filled with water or dirt for dumbells. You can also use a couple of buckets with dirt in them for doing lunges, squats, shoulder shrugs, and so forth. That'll save a few dollars.

As to the different weight training routines, there is plenty of info out there - just have to decide what works.

That's what I have been doing and I love it! It's so addicting. Some of it requires gym equipment.. but there is information about "Eva exercises" in the forums. Those exercises require no equpipment. Crossfit is a variety of a whole bunch of different exercises, and it really works on building up your core strength.
