My schedule for a normal day:
5:30 -- Wake up, let the dogs out and feed them. 5:50 -- Shower, throw the hair into a elastic band, and get dressed. 6:05-6:30 -- Breakfast, get around, check news. 7:10 -- Leave for school. 3:40 -- Arrive back from school, take care of dogs, etc. 4:30-5:30 -- Homework time. 8:30/9:00 -- Hop in bed. As you can see, I have about half an hour in the morning, and about 3 hours at night [given that homework and afternoon activities don't run later] -- with 8 hours of sleep nightly. 3 hours is plenty of time to work out, I'm sure, but I have no idea what to do. I've been told by some that I should just go out and walk for a couple of hours a day, but I was told by others that I should start out with stretching and short walks. Some have told me to go out and start doing some running for half an hour to an hour a day. Any ideas? I need to lose about 70lbs before I'm able to be "induced" into the Army. Water and Milk are my liquid sources, and I've cut out all snacking -- neither have helped to shed more than a few pounds. Cheers. |

Ok, the first thing you need to evaluate is your nutrition. Start off by jumpstarting your metabolism. That requires 6 SMALL meals a day, or eating every 2-3 hours. You also need to watch WHAT KIND of food you eat.
After you've cleaned up your nutrition, you need to figure out what to do for your exercise. For the most part, you need cardio workouts to get your heart rate up into the fat burning zone and keeping it there for around 45 minutes. Starting out that might mean going for a walk, or it might mean going for a slow run. There are some home based fitness programs that are designed around weight loss and getting into shape, and I would recommend looking into some of them. If you would like more information on some of them, definitely contact me. I'd be more than happy to give you some ideas. |

Stand down on the advice diamondbk has given.
Absolute first and foremost is go see your doctor. Discuss what you want to do and get their advice regarding physical activity, etc. Last thing you need to do is go balls to the wall on a diet as well as a PT program, get hurt, and have to back off on the "inducement", possibly forever. Next, start evaluating diet programs. You wil need something that will help you learn to make smarter choices in regard to what you eat as well as how much you eat. Stay away from the designer crap - in some cases they contain items that will cause you to come up positive for controlled substances (even though you got them legally over the counter) on a urinalysis and that will shut you down hard. Is your family/friends onboard with what you want to do? You can do this alone, but it is a lot easier if they help you. You say you are in school - is it high school, college, or ? Seems there would be a coach/trainer you could talk to and get some advice on how to start out. Most military physical fitness tests probably center around push-ups, sit-ups, and the run. You'll find plans on this site regarding preparations for those evolutions. Also, Runner's World has a site that had training programs geared towards folks that are just starting out like yourself. The run, you can do that just about anywhere - in fact, you could take the dogs with you depending on the breed, etc. Push-ups and sit-ups you can do at home without too much problem. Lastly, give it time. I ditched roughly 65 lbs. in about six months at the age of 50. You have to allow time for the body to adjust to the new situation, or you will backslide and be even heavier than before. Good luck. |

Start off with doing something you like. This will keep you motivated. Then later you can consider switching activities.
If you're looking to join a gym, I suggest the closest one to home. I have a gym at work I can use for free, but there's no way I'm driving 28 miles each way on my day off just to save on another membership closer to home. Remember any physical activity is better than none. Walking is a great way to start. Good luck. |

Walking.
Start walking, something up to 3 miles per day, most days of the week. Meditate ..put your mind at the end of each step, position and movement. As you center, opening yourself to what to do next, well (and it's deep!) the rest will come by your orders and mindedness. |

diamond -- It's quite impossible for me to eat 6 small meals a day/every 2-3 hours. We're not allowed food outside of the Cafeteria area in school, and most every one of my teachers is extremely strict about that fact.
Boats -- I'm still in High School. We have three "coaches" [Physical 'Education' Teachers] that would be able to help, one of which I would never get the chance to talk to, and another of which I do not feel comfortable around at all. I'll be sure to talk to the best advocate - the third one - though, I never even thought of that. My mother is "on board" for the exercise and dieting, and whatnot. She'd love to come with me - the only downfall with that being, when I get going; I can't stand being slowed down [in regards to exercise]. My father doesn't see a point in spending extra time and money for me to have a good diet program. 65lbs in 6 months? Congratulations! Another question I'd like to ask -- Is there a good way to build up my Triceps and Lats? I have no strength in those regions what-so-ever, and I fail horribly when trying to do pull-ups. Thanks! |

You an anomaly? ..probably not. There was time in grade school where I couldn't touch my toes, which I found hard to believe. Everyone else could. You, formerly "21391738"? If so, you having shed a few pounds already is good. Kudos to you. Losing 1-2# is a reasonable amount of weight to drop per week (average), for most. Sometimes more, some days nothing. There are lots of variables. Some weeks you'll have doubts. I understand. My wife's idea, too ..that we execise together. No, not my way. You don't need a special diet program. Just keep eating less of what you have around already. Vegetables, fruit, rice (not white), beans....... don't cost much. There's no end to the tasty and healthy meals you can assemble. Lots of little meals a day is an ideality. You will figure your personal best way in the school and home schedule you currently have. I am not a fitness coach, however, building muscle, or toning up the ones you have will help. Muscles are calorie burning machines. As a young woman, your testorone levels are probably "normal". I agree: walking.
You don't have to buy anything, join a gym...and the dogs need to be walked at least TWO times a day. Vary the route, look at it as your obligation to yourself and the dogs. If you don't make time for this no one else will! |
