My sister has two daughters. Both are just as feminine as any teenage girl and have boyfriends along with the usual angst associated with the late teens.

The oldest started going to the gym an has toned up, she was never out of shape, and has started lifting heavier.

My sister is about to lose her mind over this. She is throwing around all of the cliches and I really think she is starting to alienate her girl.

If you had a daughter, how do you think you would feel about her getting into bodybuilding? What would your concerns be?

I think your sister is having issues that go beyond body building. Maybe you can help your sister by sorting out precisely her objections. Is the daughter keeping up with chores, school work, and do they have a good relationship?

What your sister doesn't want to do is create a gulf between her and her teenager. Constant criticism will drive the two apart --hence, it's important for you to help her sort through all the issues.

As for going to the gym --as long as she's using proper nutrition, getting rest, and has some balance to her life --no problem. But she should make sure she's not involved with steroid use.
