How should you breathe while running? Through the nose or mouth? Or does it matter?

In through the nose, out through the mouth.
I'm not sure if this is a running thing or not, or if I just picked it up from swimming.
it works though.

The other thing is you need to make sure you're getting enough 02.
An old running tip I got from track was to make sure you keep a rhtyhm going.
Try snapping your fingers everytime your left foot hits the ground.
BREATH IN FOR TWO SNAPS.
BREATHE OUT FOR TWO SNAPS.

I don't recommend headphones when running on the road because you won't be able to hear oncoming traffic.

Rhythmic breathing while running can really help you set the pace, calm the brain, and help you focus. You'll come up with your own, but I used to even do a quick one two inhale, and then a long exhale out. I'd also work my core muscles while running and doing the breathing, so it was all good.
