Hello, my name is Page Sturgill and I ship out for active duty for the Navy in 19 days. I am 17 years old, 5'11 tall, and weigh 201. My biggest concern is pushups. I have to be able to do 42 in two minutes, and I can only do about 17 as of now. Situps im close to my goal, and same with running. What should I do? Just do pushups every day or is benchpressing going to help me more? My max weight is 196, but I can't seem to lose those 4 lbs. I make tape measurements but barely. Please somebody, tell me what I should do.
If it's pushups you need to do, practice pushups. For the time being I guess your goal isn't to get strong, it's to pass the test. If you can do 17, you can do 20. Start by doing 3 sets of 20 pushups 2-3 times a day. In a few days, step it up to 25 per set, a few days later 35.....
Your mind is often your biggest obstacle. Get someone to help you, someone that will push you to ensure you reach your pushup target each day. It's all about getting out of your comfort zone.
I personally wouldn't be hitting the bench press as you need a rest day afterward for starters. Pushups are easy weight, just keep practicing and pushing yourself a little more each day.
All the best, you can get there!

1 other thing Page. Just an extra help...about 3 days before you go to weigh in start taking Water Pills. If you don't know what they are, go to a Wal-Mart, ask the pharmacy for Water pills, they are supposedly for relief from bloating when you are on your period, but what it does is get rid of all the water in your body, so it will make you lose between 3-5 lbs in 1-2 days. You will be going to the bathroom constantly! Good luck hun!
